New Delhi: BMW is reportedly planning to introduce the next-generation X5 in India with a Long Wheelbase (LWB) configuration, a move that could make the luxury SUV even more appealing to chauffeur-driven buyers. The upcoming model is expected to feature additional rear-seat space, a completely redesigned cabin and BMW’s latest Neue Klasse design philosophy.

According to reports, the next-generation X5 is expected to make its global debut soon, with the fully electric BMW iX5 leading the new generation. The SUV will adopt the brand’s fresh styling language, already showcased on the latest iX3 and i3 electric models.

Why the Long-Wheelbase Model Makes Sense for India

BMW has already witnessed strong demand for its long-wheelbase vehicles in India.

The luxury carmaker currently offers the 3 Series LWB, 5 Series LWB, and iX1 LWB, all of which were originally developed for the Chinese market. However, these models have gained popularity among Indian customers who prefer spacious rear seating and enhanced comfort, particularly those who are chauffeur-driven.

The upcoming X5 LWB is expected to follow the same strategy, bringing significantly improved rear legroom without compromising the SUV’s premium appeal.

Launch Timeline

While reports indicate that India will receive the long-wheelbase version of the next-generation X5, buyers may have to wait a little longer.

Since the standard model has not yet been officially unveiled globally, and the long-wheelbase version will require additional development, the SUV is unlikely to arrive in India before the second half of 2027.

BMW is also expected to expand its long-wheelbase portfolio before then, with the BMW i5 LWB likely to debut later this year, followed by the iX3 LWB in 2027.

Leaked images of the next-generation X5 have already offered an early glimpse of its completely redesigned exterior.

The SUV is expected to feature slimmer lighting elements housed within blacked-out panels, along with vertically illuminated kidney grilles that reflect BMW’s evolving design language.

At the rear, a sloping roofline and sleek wraparound LED tail lamps give the SUV a more modern and athletic appearance while retaining its commanding road presence.
