2027 Hyundai Tucson Unveiled: Bigger, Bolder and More Rugged SUV But Will India Get It…?
Hyundai has revealed the fifth-generation Tucson with a larger body, sharper road presence, a redesigned cabin and an XRT adventure-focused variant. The big question now is whether the new SUV will make its way to India.
Hyundai has taken the wraps off the fifth-generation Tucson, giving its popular SUV a major design and size upgrade for the 2027 model year. The new Tucson arrives around six years after the current generation made its global debut in late 2020 and brings a noticeably more upright, wider and more muscular appearance.
While Hyundai has revealed the design and dimensions of the new Tucson, the company has not yet announced its complete powertrain specifications. However, considering the outgoing model has been offered with both hybrid and non-hybrid powertrains in international markets, a similar strategy could continue with the new generation.
A More Upright and Rugged Tucson
The biggest change is immediately visible from the outside. The 2027 Hyundai Tucson moves away from the sharper styling of its predecessor and adopts a more boxy and upright SUV design.
At the front, the new Tucson gets a slim, full-width light bar positioned above a blacked-out lower grille. Vertical daytime running lights sit at the outer edges of the bumper, creating what Hyundai calls its H-edge lighting signature.
The lighting system also uses an indirect illumination approach, with the actual light sources hidden from direct view. According to Hyundai’s design philosophy, this allows the vehicle’s bodywork and overall shape to take centre stage rather than making the lighting hardware the primary visual focus.
The rear follows a similarly modern theme. A full-width LED light bar stretches across the tailgate, while vertical red lighting elements sit on both sides. The Hyundai logo is positioned centrally between the brand name and the TUCSON lettering, giving the tailgate a cleaner appearance.
New Tucson Is Bigger Than Before
The new-generation Tucson has also grown considerably in size.
It measures 4,700 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width and 1,685 mm in height, with a 2,785 mm wheelbase. Compared with the outgoing model, the new SUV is 60 mm longer, 40 mm wider and has a 30 mm longer wheelbase.
The increased dimensions aren’t just about making the Tucson look larger. Hyundai has used the additional space to improve rear-seat comfort as well.
Rear headroom has increased by 29 mm to 1,031 mm, while the rear door opening angle has been expanded from 73 degrees to 83 degrees. The wider opening should make getting in and out of the second row more convenient, particularly for families and older passengers.
A More Modern Cabin
Inside, the 2027 Tucson receives a significantly redesigned dashboard. Two integrated screens sit beneath a single panel, combining the digital instrument cluster with a larger touchscreen for navigation, media and other functions.
The SUV also gets a distinctive two-spoke steering wheel with physical controls, retaining conventional buttons instead of relying entirely on touchscreen interfaces.
Hyundai has added orange ambient lighting along the lower dashboard and door panels. These elements contrast with the lighter-coloured leather upholstery used across the front seats and door trim, giving the cabin a more premium appearance.
XRT Variant Adds a Tougher Look
Hyundai will also offer the fifth-generation Tucson in an XRT variant, aimed at buyers looking for a more rugged and adventure-oriented SUV.

The XRT gets unique exterior styling that separates it from the standard Tucson. While it is primarily positioned as a tougher-looking version, its presence could help Hyundai appeal to customers increasingly interested in SUVs with an off-road-inspired design.
The new Tucson will initially be available in eight exterior colour options, including five newly introduced shades. These include Serenity White Pearl, Driftwood Grey Matte and Driftwood Grey Metallic.
Will the New Hyundai Tucson Come to India?
For Indian SUV buyers, the biggest unanswered question is whether this new-generation Tucson will eventually arrive in the country.

Hyundai India has not confirmed the launch of the fifth-generation Tucson in India yet. However, there is a strong case for the company to consider bringing it here.
The current-generation Tucson has already been sold in India, giving Hyundai an established presence in the premium SUV segment. With Indian buyers showing continued interest in larger, feature-rich SUVs, the new Tucson could potentially strengthen Hyundai’s position in this space.
However, several factors could influence an India launch, including engine options, pricing, localisation strategy and Hyundai’s broader SUV lineup.
For now, the fifth-generation Tucson remains a global reveal rather than a confirmed Indian launch. But given Hyundai’s history with the Tucson nameplate in the country, Indian buyers may have a reason to keep an eye on this new SUV.
The 2027 Hyundai Tucson has clearly taken a step towards a bigger, bolder and more premium identity. Whether that transformation eventually reaches Indian roads, however, is the question Hyundai is yet to answer…
