Siddharth Anand’s ‘Oops’ on Telugu Films Sparks Outrage: Fans Fire Back Over ‘Devara’, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ and More…
Filmmaker Siddharth Anand faced criticism from Telugu cinema fans after reacting with “Oops” to a social media post calling several major Telugu releases flops. Although he later deleted the response, screenshots continued to circulate online.
Siddharth Anand has found himself at the centre of a social media controversy after his one-word reaction to a post about several Telugu films triggered strong reactions from fans.
The filmmaker reportedly responded “Oops” to an X post that described a number of recent and upcoming big-budget Telugu films as flops. Although Siddharth later deleted his response, screenshots of the interaction quickly spread across social media.
The incident has since sparked a heated debate, with several Telugu cinema fans accusing the filmmaker of taking an unnecessary swipe at the industry and questioning the assessment of the films mentioned in the original post.
What did Siddharth Anand say?
The controversy began after an X user shared a list featuring films associated with some of the biggest names in Telugu cinema.
The list included NTR Jr’s Devara, Pawan Kalyan’s They Call Him OG, Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom, Ram Charan’s Peddi, Prabhas’ The Raja Saab, Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram and Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaj.
The user labelled each of the films a “flop”.
Siddharth Anand responded with just one word: “Oops.”
While the comment itself was extremely brief, its timing and context were enough to trigger a significant reaction among Telugu film fans.
Fans hit back at the filmmaker
Several users criticised Siddharth Anand, arguing that his response appeared dismissive towards the Telugu film industry.
One user brought up Siddharth’s own film Fighter, while responding to the filmmaker.
The user wrote, “Says the director who blamed audience for the flop of Fighter.” The comment went on to mention the performances of Kalki 2898 AD, Devara and OG, while also challenging Siddharth over his upcoming project.
Another social media user questioned Siddharth’s filmmaking approach, accusing him of relying heavily on Hollywood influences and suggesting that he should focus on making films according to his own standards before entering such debates.
A third user disputed the original post’s assessment altogether, pointing to films such as Kalki 2898 AD, Devara, Hanu-Man and Saripodhaa Sanivaaram as examples of successful Telugu cinema releases.
The reactions show how quickly a seemingly small social media interaction can turn into a much larger debate when it involves two of India’s biggest film industries.
Why are ‘Devara’ and ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ being mentioned?
A major part of the online debate revolves around how the success or failure of Telugu films is being judged.
Fans have particularly pointed to Kalki 2898 AD as an example of the growing global reach of Telugu cinema. The Prabhas-starrer became one of the biggest Indian releases of its time, while Devara, starring NTR Jr, also generated significant theatrical attention.
The debate is ultimately less about one filmmaker’s deleted comment and more about the increasingly competitive conversation surrounding Bollywood and South Indian cinema.
Siddharth Anand’s next film is Shah Rukh Khan’s King
The controversy comes at an interesting time for Siddharth Anand, who is preparing for his next major project, King, starring Shah Rukh Khan.
The film has already generated considerable buzz following its first glimpse, which showcased Shah Rukh in an intense and action-heavy avatar.
In the glimpse, the actor was seen battling armed men, covered in blood, while holding a King of Hearts playing card between his lips.

The film features a major ensemble cast, including Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Arshad Warsi and Jaideep Ahlawat.
For Suhana Khan, the film carries additional significance as it marks her theatrical debut.
Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures, King is scheduled to release in cinemas on December 24, 2026.
Shah Rukh Khan teases a darker ‘King’
Shah Rukh Khan has previously offered some insight into his character in King, suggesting that audiences will see him in a considerably darker avatar.

During a fan interaction, the actor described the character as someone with a dangerous side and revealed that King is a killer.
Shah Rukh also explained that he wants to explore a wider variety of characters at this stage of his career rather than repeatedly playing familiar roles.
The actor has also spoken about being selective with his projects, noting that he prefers to take time between major films because of the challenges involved in making movies today.
The controversy comes at an interesting time
For now, Siddharth Anand’s “Oops” remains a deleted social media reaction, and there has been no indication that the filmmaker intended to start a wider debate with Telugu cinema fans.
But the reaction it generated has ensured that the comment has travelled much further than the original post.
With King already among the most anticipated Bollywood releases of 2026, the controversy has added another layer of attention around Siddharth Anand.
Whether the episode fades away or continues to fuel the Bollywood vs Telugu cinema conversation, one thing is clear: in today’s social media-driven film industry, even a single-word reaction can become headline news.
