Shehnaaz Gill questions obsession with ‘hourglass figure’, recalls being trolled on Bigg Boss: ‘Everyone is different’

Shehnaaz Gill has never been one to shy away from speaking her mind. Years after becoming a household name through Bigg Boss 13, the actress has reflected on the criticism she faced during the reality show from comments about her weight to people mocking the way she spoke Hindi.

In a candid conversation about body image and self-acceptance, Shehnaaz recalled that she was heavily trolled during her Bigg Boss journey because of her appearance and language.

“I was very trolled on Bigg Boss because of my body. I was also trolled a lot for my language,” she said, recalling how some people even labelled her “anpadh gawaar” because of the way she spoke and presented herself.

After leaving the Bigg Boss house, Shehnaaz underwent a noticeable physical transformation. However, she now believes that gaining a few kilos should not automatically become a reason to feel insecure.

She explained that there are times when she puts on weight and still feels proud and comfortable with herself. According to the actress, gaining four or five kilograms is perfectly fine if a person is happy with how they look and feel.

“If you are comfortable in your body and feel that you look good like this, it’s okay,” Shehnaaz said.

Her remarks put the focus on a wider conversation around beauty standards, particularly the pressure celebrities and young women often face to maintain a certain body type.

Shehnaaz also questioned society’s fascination with the so-called hourglass figure, arguing that every person’s body is naturally different.

“Everyone is different,” she said, adding that trends can influence what society considers attractive. She suggested that if healthier and more diverse body types were celebrated as widely as certain conventional beauty standards, perceptions could gradually change.

Her message is simple: there should not be a single template determining what a beautiful body is supposed to look like.

While the original Singh vs Kaur, released in 2013, was largely rooted in a local romantic-comedy setting, its sequel expands the story across Punjab, Kolkata and Canada.

Shehnaaz has also been associated with projects including Ishqnama and Ikk Kudi, continuing to build a career that has moved far beyond the reality show that first introduced her to millions of viewers.
