Drishyam 4 after Rs 340 crore success? Ajay Devgn calls Drishyam 3 ‘the conclusion’ but leaves one door open…
Ajay Devgn says Drishyam 3 was designed as the conclusion to Vijay Salgaonkar’s story ‘right now’, but his carefully chosen words have already sparked questions about whether the Hindi franchise could eventually return.
Drishyam 3 may have been promoted as the conclusion of Vijay Salgaonkar’s story, but Ajay Devgn is not quite ready to say that the door has been locked forever.
The Abhishek Pathak-directed crime thriller has reportedly crossed Rs 340 crore worldwide, while its strong theatrical performance has naturally led to one question among fans: Could there eventually be a Drishyam 4?
Ajay’s answer is intriguing.
Speaking to Gulf News, the actor maintained that the third film is currently considered the end of the Hindi franchise but repeatedly emphasised the words “right now.”
Ajay Devgn on Drishyam 4: ‘I can’t predict it’
When asked about the future of the franchise, Ajay Devgn initially gave a straightforward response.“At the moment, it is a conclusion.”
But he immediately left some room for uncertainty, adding:“I can’t predict it.”
When pushed further on whether another instalment could happen, Ajay reiterated that the present decision is to end the story with the third film.“The decision right now is that this is the conclusion… Right now.”
Those final two words are likely to keep speculation around Drishyam 4 alive.
There is currently no official announcement of a fourth Hindi Drishyam film, and Ajay’s comments should not be treated as confirmation that one is being developed. However, he has clearly stopped short of saying that another chapter is impossible.
Why Hindi Drishyam 3 followed a different story
Another major talking point surrounding Drishyam 3 has been its decision to take a different narrative path from the Malayalam Drishyam franchise, led by Mohanlal.
Ajay rejected the idea that the Hindi team deliberately wanted to rebel against the original franchise.
Instead, he described the situation as something that developed naturally while both creative teams were exploring ideas for a third instalment.
According to the actor, a third film had not initially been firmly planned.“Honestly speaking, they had not decided to make a third one. We were toying with the idea.”
Several ideas were reportedly discussed before the Hindi team eventually arrived at a screenplay it believed could take the story forward.
Hindi and Malayalam teams exchanged their scripts
The process became particularly interesting once both sides realised they were developing separate ideas.
Ajay revealed that the Hindi team contacted the Malayalam filmmakers after developing a script. They then discovered that Jeethu Joseph’s team was also working on its own story.
Rather than immediately choosing one version, the teams decided to hear each other out.
The Hindi screenplay was developed by Abhishek Pathak, Aamii Keeyan Khan and Parveez Shaikh, while Jeethu Joseph was behind the Malayalam story.
Both sides exchanged their ideas before deciding how to proceed.
Ajay said the Hindi filmmakers ultimately felt that the Malayalam screenplay worked particularly well for its intended audience, while they remained confident that their own story was better suited to the Hindi adaptation.
That resulted in the unusual situation where the two versions of Drishyam 3 could follow different narrative routes instead of the Hindi film simply recreating the Malayalam version.
‘We were very confident about our script’
Ajay explained that confidence in the Hindi screenplay ultimately convinced the team to stick with its own interpretation.

He said that after putting substantial work into a story and finally arriving at something that feels right, filmmakers need the confidence to execute that vision.
That decision appears to have paid off commercially.
According to the reported box-office figures, Drishyam 3 has crossed Rs 340 crore worldwide.
The film is also reported to have accumulated approximately Rs 217 crore at the domestic box office within its first five days, underlining the enormous audience interest surrounding the franchise.

Is Drishyam 4 actually happening?
For now, the answer is no at least officially.
Ajay Devgn has not announced Drishyam 4, nor has the Hindi production team confirmed that another sequel is in development.
What makes the situation interesting is that Ajay also refused to make an absolute declaration that the franchise had ended permanently.
For a film series built around Vijay Salgaonkar staying one step ahead of everyone else, perhaps an ending that does not completely feel like an ending is fitting.
Meanwhile, reports surrounding the Malayalam franchise have suggested that Jeethu Joseph could continue exploring its future following the third film. Any such development, however, would not automatically mean that the Hindi series would follow the same route.
Drishyam 3 brings back familiar faces
Drishyam 3 features Ajay Devgn once again as Vijay Salgaonkar, alongside several familiar faces from the franchise.
The cast includes Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta and Kamlesh Sawant, while Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj are also part of the ensemble.
With the film reportedly crossing Rs 340 crore worldwide, commercial demand for the franchise clearly remains strong.
Whether that demand eventually results in another sequel is a decision for another day.
For the moment, Ajay Devgn’s position remains carefully worded: Drishyam 3 is the conclusion “right now.”
And for fans who know Vijay Salgaonkar, those last two words may be enough to keep them guessing.
