iPhone 18 price in India remains a mystery as Apple launches Pro models from ₹1.65 lakh here’s what buyers get…

NEW DELHI: Apple has unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in India, bringing substantial upgrades to the camera, performance, artificial intelligence and battery departments. However, the announcement also came with an unexpected omission: there is no standard iPhone 18, at least for now.

The absence of the regular model means Indian customers looking for an affordable entry into the latest iPhone generation will either have to consider an older device or wait for another announcement from Apple.

Meanwhile, the new iPhone 18 Pro series sits firmly in the ultra-premium category. The smaller Pro model begins at ₹1,64,900, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at ₹1,79,900. The top-end 2TB Pro Max crosses the ₹3 lakh mark, carrying a price tag of ₹3,29,900.

In the United States, the iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299. Both devices now offer 256GB storage in their base configurations.

Where is the standard iPhone 18?

Perhaps the most surprising part of Apple’s latest launch is what the company did not announce.

While the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and foldable iPhone Duo made their debut, Apple did not reveal the price, specifications or release date of a regular iPhone 18.

The move is likely to disappoint customers who wanted the latest-generation model without paying nearly ₹1.65 lakh. Apple has also not explained when—or whether—the standard device will join the lineup.

Reports have pointed towards a possible split-launch strategy, under which the regular model could arrive separately. Until an official announcement is made, however, any release date or price attached to the standard iPhone 18 remains speculative.

For now, Apple’s broader Indian lineup continues to include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air, giving buyers a few less expensive alternatives.

A20 Pro chip brings more power and improved cooling

Both new smartphones are powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, which is paired with a redesigned vapour-chamber cooling system. The setup is intended to deliver stronger sustained performance during gaming, video editing and demanding artificial-intelligence workloads.

Apple says the new chip offers improved processing efficiency and faster graphics than the previous-generation A19 Pro. A next-generation Neural Engine also handles on-device Apple Intelligence features.

This may sound like a predictable annual processor upgrade, but better thermal management could make a noticeable difference. High-end smartphones often slow down when they become hot, particularly during long gaming sessions or 4K video recording.

Variable-aperture camera is the headline upgrade

The biggest attraction is the new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. Instead of relying entirely on software, the camera can physically adjust how much light enters the lens.

A wider aperture can help produce brighter photographs in dark environments, while a narrower setting can keep more of a scene in focus. Users can let the phone choose an appropriate setting automatically or access manual controls for a more deliberate look.

The rear camera system consists of three 48MP cameras, accompanied by professional photography controls and up to 8x optical-quality zoom. The setup is clearly aimed at photographers, filmmakers and creators who increasingly rely on smartphones for commercial work.

The iPhone 18 Pro carries a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display, whereas the Pro Max gets a larger 6.9-inch screen. Both panels support ProMotion technology, an Always-On display and a redesigned Dynamic Island.

Battery life gives the Pro Max a major advantage

Battery endurance could be the strongest reason to choose the larger model. According to Apple, the iPhone 18 Pro Max can provide up to 43 hours of video playback, the longest claimed battery life on an iPhone.

The company has also improved wired charging. Both models can reach approximately 50 per cent charge in around 15 minutes when used with a compatible power adapter.

For travellers, gamers and creators who spend hours recording videos, the combination of a bigger battery, improved cooling and a more efficient processor may matter more than any cosmetic change.

Siri AI arrives with iOS 27

The two smartphones run iOS 27 and support Apple Intelligence along with the upgraded Siri AI.

The new assistant is designed to understand personal context, recognise information shown on the screen and complete tasks across supported applications. Apple says many requests can be processed directly on the device, while more complex operations can use its private cloud infrastructure.

The company continues to place privacy at the centre of its artificial-intelligence strategy, an area where it hopes to distinguish the iPhone from rival platforms.

Pre-order and sale dates in India

Pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will open in India at 5:30 pm IST on September 12. Sales will begin on September 18 through Apple’s online store, physical retail locations and authorised sellers.

The devices will be available in four finishes:

• Burgundy

Apple is also promoting up to six months of no-cost EMI and instant cashback of up to ₹7,000 with selected cards. The actual benefit will depend on the chosen model, bank and applicable offer conditions.
