Kareena Kapoor and Dhanush With Sanjay Leela Bhansali? S Mithran Finally Breaks Silence on Big Collaboration
Kareena Kapoor Khan and Dhanush could come together for a massive mythological jungle adventure associated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, as filmmaker PS Mithran confirms that discussions are underway and dates are being explored.
Mumbai: A potentially huge Bollywood-South cinema collaboration appears to be taking shape. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Dhanush are reportedly in discussions for an ambitious mythological jungle adventure linked to filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Speculation surrounding the project has been circulating for some time, but director PS Mithran has now confirmed that talks are indeed underway.
If everything falls into place, the project could bring together three major creative forces while also marking important firsts for both its leading stars.
PS Mithran Confirms Talks Are Underway
Speaking to Cinema Vikatan, Mithran confirmed that discussions are progressing and that the team is currently examining the actors’ schedules.
“Talks are underway; we are looking at the dates for confirmation. Hopefully, something good will come out of it,” the filmmaker said.
The statement is the clearest indication yet that the proposed collaboration involving Kareena Kapoor and Dhanush is more than just industry speculation.
However, neither Kareena nor Dhanush’s team has officially announced the project yet. Until contracts and schedules are locked, the film remains in the discussion stage.
What Do We Know About the Film?
The proposed project is being described as a mythological jungle adventure, potentially giving audiences a genre and visual world very different from conventional Hindi cinema.
According to reports, the screenplay has gone through multiple rewrites, with the makers working to finalise the story before moving into full-fledged production.
If plans remain on track, pre-production could reportedly begin in November 2026, followed by principal photography in January 2027.
Given Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s reputation for visually elaborate filmmaking and Mithran’s experience with large-scale commercial storytelling, the project could become one of the more intriguing pan-India films to watch.
A Major First for Kareena Kapoor?
For Kareena Kapoor Khan, the movie could potentially mark her first major pan-India project of this scale.
Over a career spanning more than two decades, Kareena has worked with several of Hindi cinema’s biggest filmmakers and actors. A collaboration with Bhansali, however, has remained conspicuously absent from her filmography.
That makes the latest development particularly interesting.
Kareena and Bhansali were famously linked to Devdas in the early 2000s. Kareena had reportedly undergone a screen test for the role of Paro, but the character eventually went to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
What followed was a public exchange over how the casting situation had unfolded, and the two never ended up working together.
More than two decades later, this proposed project could finally bring them onto the same film.
Dhanush Is No Stranger to Bollywood
For Dhanush, meanwhile, another Hindi-language or pan-India project would add to an already diverse career spanning multiple industries.
The National Award-winning actor has established himself as one of Tamil cinema’s biggest names while also building a strong presence among Hindi audiences through films including Raanjhanaa, Shamitabh, Atrangi Re and Tere Ishk Mein.
He was seen in Kara earlier this year and has several projects in the pipeline, including Om: Chapter 1 – Uthiram The Blood Wood and D56.
Pairing Dhanush with Kareena would itself offer audiences a fresh combination that has never previously been explored on the big screen.
PS Mithran Could Make His Bollywood Debut
The film could be equally important for PS Mithran.
The filmmaker is known for Tamil movies including Irumbu Thirai (2018), Hero (2019) and Sardar (2022).
Should the Kareena-Dhanush project officially move forward, it could mark Mithran’s Bollywood directorial debut, giving him a considerably larger canvas and a star-studded cast for his entry into Hindi cinema.

Kareena Has ‘Daayra’ Ahead
While fans wait for an official announcement regarding the Bhansali-backed project, Kareena already has another major film lined up.
The actress will be seen in Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra, alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran, with the film scheduled for release on September 18.
She had also previously been linked with Yash’s Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, although no official confirmation of her involvement emerged from either the makers or her team.
Will This Dream Collaboration Finally Happen?

For now, the biggest piece of information is Mithran’s confirmation that talks are happening.
Dates still need to be worked out, and an official announcement from the makers or actors remains awaited. But if negotiations succeed, audiences could witness an unusual combination of Kareena Kapoor Khan, Dhanush, PS Mithran and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
For Kareena in particular, the project would carry an added layer of history.
After more than two decades since the Devdas casting controversy, could Kareena and Bhansali finally work together?
This time, the answer appears closer to yes than ever before.
