The Naga Chaitanya-Sobhita Dhulipala marriage, the actor’s journey beyond his star family and his upcoming projects took centre stage as he opened up about the people and choices shaping his life.
Naga Chaitanya has offered a candid glimpse into his marriage with Sobhita Dhulipala, revealing that friendship, understanding and the willingness to adapt are at the heart of their relationship.
In a recent conversation with Variety India, the Telugu actor spoke about his personal life, career, family legacy and his plans for the future. While discussing marriage, Chaitanya made it clear that he sees a strong relationship as something built through companionship rather than simply romance.
“It’s friendship and understanding. And being open to adapting to each other,” Chaitanya said, explaining that both partners need to remain open-minded as they navigate life together.
Naga Chaitanya calls Sobhita his “true critic”
For Chaitanya, Sobhita Dhulipala is more than his life partner. He also sees her as someone who challenges his thinking.
The actor described Sobhita as his “true critic” and praised her intelligence, saying that she often brings perspectives into his life that he had not considered before.
“She’s very intelligent. So, she brings that perspective to me, which I never had all these days,” he said.
His comments offer a glimpse into the dynamic between the couple, who have increasingly kept their relationship away from unnecessary public attention while occasionally sharing personal moments with fans.
Why acting was not Chaitanya’s first career choice
Despite being born into one of Telugu cinema’s most prominent families, Chaitanya said acting was not an obvious career choice when he was growing up.
The actor was initially drawn towards engineering, automobiles and racing. It was only later that his interest in films began to take shape.
At around 17, he eventually spoke to his parents about wanting to pursue acting. His mother wanted him to complete his education, while his father encouraged him to first understand whether he was genuinely interested in the craft or simply attracted to the glamour surrounding the film industry.
Chaitanya eventually chose acting and trained at Creating Characters in Mumbai before continuing his education at the New York Film Academy.
‘Learn from your own mistakes’: The advice from his father
Growing up around successful actors and filmmakers could easily have resulted in Chaitanya depending heavily on family guidance. However, he said his father encouraged him to develop his own instincts.
According to the actor, there was a point when his father stopped giving him direct solutions and instead asked him to trust his own judgment.
“He always asks me to learn from my own mistakes,” Chaitanya recalled. “Do what you feel works best for you.”
That approach appears to have influenced the actor’s outlook on his career. Chaitanya acknowledged the legacy created by his family but said he does not want to simply reproduce what previous generations achieved.
He believes creating an individual identity is essential if he wants to establish his own place in the industry.
Naga Chaitanya on ‘Dhootha 2’: A new world of horror
On the professional front, Chaitanya is preparing for the second season of the supernatural thriller Dhootha.
While the upcoming season will continue from the events of the first instalment, the story will move into a different professional environment.
The first season used journalism as its backdrop. According to Chaitanya, the second season will explore the medical world while retaining the horror-thriller genre.
“It’s going to be trailing off season one. It’s sticking to the same horror thriller genre,” he explained.
The change in setting could give the series a fresh narrative direction while allowing the creators to build on the atmosphere and mysteries established earlier.
‘Vrushakarma’ promises a bigger theatrical spectacle
Chaitanya also shared an update on Vrushakarma, describing it as one of the most ambitious theatrical projects he has taken on.
The actor revealed that only around 10 days of shooting remained and said the film features extensive visual effects and a large-scale cinematic presentation.

“I’m very happy and confident about the way it has shaped up,” he said.
For Chaitanya, the project is particularly exciting because of its scale. Rather than being driven only by star power, the film is being positioned as a visual spectacle designed for the big screen.
Naga Chaitanya has a clear idea about ‘pan-India’ cinema
As Telugu films continue to find audiences well beyond Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Chaitanya believes filmmakers should not dilute their regional identity in an attempt to make a film appeal nationally.
For him, the real strength of pan-India cinema lies in authenticity.
“It is important to stick to your roots. The stories of our land, the stories of our culture,” he said.

Chaitanya believes audiences across India are increasingly willing to embrace stories from different regions as long as filmmakers remain genuine instead of attempting to combine too many elements simply to create a pan-India package.
His view reflects a larger shift in Indian cinema, where films rooted strongly in local cultures have increasingly found audiences across linguistic boundaries.
Annapurna Studios looks towards the future of filmmaking
Beyond acting, Chaitanya is also associated with Annapurna Studios, the production house founded by his family.
He said the studio is exploring the rapid technological changes taking place across the filmmaking industry, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence, virtual production, motion capture and digital filmmaking workflows.
“With the way films are shot, more digital-focused virtual production and motion capture in studio flows. So, this has been driving me,” Chaitanya said.
The studio is also looking to expand its production activities, with Telugu cinema continuing to remain a major focus.
For Chaitanya, the next phase of his career appears to be about more than acting. From building a distinct identity away from his family legacy to exploring new genres and filmmaking technologies, the actor is gradually carving out a space that reflects his own choices.
And if his comments about Sobhita Dhulipala are any indication, he is approaching his personal life with a similar philosophy stay open, keep learning and walk forward together.
