Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’ has reportedly secured a Rs 160 crore OTT deal, potentially making it the biggest digital rights deal for a Tamil film.

Rajinikanth is once again proving that his star power extends far beyond the theatrical box office.

His upcoming Tamil film Jailer 2 has reportedly secured a massive Rs 160 crore OTT deal, adding another major milestone to one of the most anticipated sequels in Indian cinema.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the deal is being described as the biggest non-theatrical deal of 2026 and the biggest reported digital rights deal for a Tamil film so far. However, the film’s makers have not officially confirmed the financial details of the reported agreement.

If the figure is accurate, Jailer 2 has already created a major business record before audiences have even seen the film in theatres.

‘Jailer 2’ reportedly surpasses ‘Leo’ with Rs 160 crore deal

The reported streaming deal puts Jailer 2 ahead of several major Tamil blockbusters in terms of digital rights value.

A source quoted in the report claimed that the film has secured the biggest non-theatrical deal of the year and has also surpassed the previous reported record for a Tamil film.

The reported Rs 160 crore valuation is said to be higher than the approximately Rs 150 crore digital rights deal associated with Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo.

The numbers, if confirmed, underline the extraordinary demand for the Jailer franchise and the continued commercial pull of Rajinikanth.

From ‘Jailer’ to ‘Coolie’: Rajinikanth’s digital market keeps growing

The reported deal becomes even more interesting when compared with the streaming business of Rajinikanth’s recent films.

The first Jailer, which became a blockbuster in 2023, reportedly fetched around Rs 75 crore for its streaming rights.

Rajinikanth’s subsequent film Coolie was reportedly associated with a much larger Rs 120 crore digital deal.

Now, if the reported Rs 160 crore figure for Jailer 2 is accurate, the sequel represents another significant jump.

The progression highlights how streaming platforms continue to place a premium on films featuring established stars and franchises that already have a proven audience.

Why ‘Jailer 2’ is commanding such a huge valuation

A major part of the film’s appeal is obviously Rajinikanth.

The superstar will return as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the character who became one of the most popular aspects of the first Jailer.

The 2023 film successfully combined Rajinikanth’s larger-than-life screen presence with Nelson Dilipkumar’s distinctive style, resulting in a major theatrical success.

The sequel brings the two back together, naturally creating significant expectations among fans.

The return of familiar characters and the expansion of the Jailer world have further strengthened interest in the project.

‘Jailer 2’ has an impressive ensemble cast

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 features Rajinikanth in the lead alongside a strong ensemble cast.

The film includes Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, SJ Suryah and Suraj Venjaramoodu in important roles.

There is also considerable excitement around the reported return of Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar, who made memorable appearances in the first instalment.

The presence of major stars from different South Indian film industries could further expand the sequel’s appeal beyond Tamil-speaking audiences.

Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music, continuing his association with the franchise.

The first ‘Jailer’ set the bar high

The original Jailer arrived in 2023 and quickly became one of the biggest commercial successes of Rajinikanth’s career in recent years.

The film’s mix of action, humour, mass moments and a memorable supporting cast helped it connect strongly with audiences.

The success also transformed the Jailer title into a valuable franchise, making the sequel one of the most closely watched Tamil releases in the pipeline.

That franchise value appears to be playing an important role in the reported OTT valuation.

A digital record before the theatrical release

What makes the reported Rs 160 crore deal particularly notable is that the sequel has generated such significant business even before its theatrical campaign fully takes off.

For streaming platforms, acquiring the rights to a Rajinikanth-led sequel provides access to a built-in audience that has already demonstrated interest in the first film.

For the makers, meanwhile, a major non-theatrical deal can provide substantial financial security before the theatrical box-office journey begins.

Still, the Rs 160 crore figure remains a reported amount, and official confirmation from the makers or streaming partner will be needed before it can be treated as a confirmed record.

‘Jailer 2’ expectations are now even higher

With filming reportedly completed and post-production underway, attention is gradually shifting towards the film’s promotional campaign and theatrical release plans.

The reported OTT deal adds another layer to the growing anticipation around the sequel.

If Jailer 2 eventually delivers at the box office on the scale expected by fans, the film could become one of the biggest commercial Tamil releases of the year.

For now, though, one thing is clear: Rajinikanth’s Tiger Muthuvel Pandian is already proving to be valuable business even before returning to the big screen.
