Nidhhi Agerwal Questioned by ED in Betting Apps Case: ‘The Raja Saab’ Actress Appears at Hyderabad Office
Nidhhi Agerwal appeared before the Enforcement Directorate in Hyderabad on August 19 as part of an ongoing probe into the alleged promotion of illegal betting applications by celebrities and social media influencers.
Actress Nidhhi Agerwal, known for films including The Raja Saab, has appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Hyderabad in connection with an ongoing investigation into the alleged promotion of illegal betting applications.
According to a report by ANI, Agerwal appeared at the ED office on August 19 and was reportedly brought to the premises under police security. Her appearance came after the agency issued her a notice as investigators continued examining the alleged links between celebrities, influencers and betting platforms.
The questioning does not by itself establish wrongdoing. The authorities are investigating the allegations and are examining the nature of promotional activities associated with the platforms.
Nidhhi Agerwal joins a growing list of celebrities under scrutiny
The case has drawn considerable attention because of the number of prominent names reportedly being examined by investigating agencies.
Several actors and social media personalities have been named in connection with the alleged promotion of online gambling applications. The reported list includes Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, Manchu Lakshmi, Praneetha, Nidhhi Agerwal, Ananya Nagella, Siri Hanumanthu, Sreemukhi and Varshini Sounderajan, among others.
Authorities are looking into whether promotional campaigns featuring celebrities and influencers helped betting platforms reach a wider audience, particularly younger users.
How did the betting apps investigation begin?
The investigation traces back to a complaint filed by businessman PM Phanindra Sarma on March 19 last year.
Following the complaint, the Telangana Police registered an FIR at Miyapur Police Station in Hyderabad. The complaint alleged that several celebrities and social media influencers had promoted online gambling applications.
The complainant reportedly alleged that such endorsements could influence young people to participate in betting and encourage them to put money into online platforms.
The investigation was subsequently expanded, with different agencies examining the alleged promotional network and the financial and operational aspects surrounding the betting platforms.
Why are celebrities being questioned?
The central question for investigators is reportedly whether celebrities and influencers merely participated in promotional campaigns or whether they had a deeper association with platforms alleged to be operating illegally.

Investigators are expected to examine the nature of agreements, promotional material, payments and other interactions that may help establish the extent of the alleged association.
It is important to note that being questioned or named in an investigation does not automatically mean that an individual has been found guilty of an offence.
Online betting remains a major regulatory concern
The case comes at a time when online betting and gambling platforms remain a contentious issue in India.
The rapid growth of digital platforms and social media advertising has made celebrity endorsements an increasingly important part of online marketing. At the same time, concerns have been raised over the potential impact of betting promotions on younger audiences and financially vulnerable users.

The legal position surrounding different forms of online gaming, betting and gambling has also been the subject of continuing judicial and regulatory scrutiny.
The Supreme Court has previously dealt with petitions and legal questions concerning the regulation of online gaming and betting-related activities, adding another layer to an already complicated legal landscape.
What happens next?
With the ED now questioning Nidhhi Agerwal, investigators are expected to continue gathering information from individuals connected to the alleged promotional campaigns.
The agency’s questioning could focus on how the actress became associated with the platforms, the nature of any promotional arrangements and other details relevant to the investigation.
For now, the case remains under investigation, and any allegations against individuals named in the probe will need to be established through the legal process.
For Nidhhi Agerwal, her appearance before the agency marks another significant development in a case that has already brought several high-profile names from the entertainment and social media industries under the spotlight.
