Emraan Hashmi has scored a major career turnaround with Awarapan 2, which has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office.

For Emraan Hashmi, the success of Awarapan 2 is about much more than another box-office milestone. It has arrived at a crucial point in his career, ending a prolonged period in which several of his films struggled to connect with audiences.

The film has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office, becoming the first film in which Hashmi has played the lead to achieve the milestone. After years of underwhelming theatrical performances, the result has given the actor a significant boost and put him back in the conversation as a commercially viable leading man.

What makes the turnaround even more striking is the financial record of his previous five films.

Rs 740 crore spent, but no major success

According to the box-office analysis cited in the report, Hashmi’s previous five films had a combined production cost of approximately Rs 740 crore.

Despite that enormous investment, the films reportedly recorded a 0% success ratio, with the combined losses estimated at around Rs 214.75 crore.

The numbers underline just how difficult the actor’s recent theatrical run had become. While Hashmi remained a familiar and popular face, several of his films were unable to translate that recognition into strong box-office returns.

The streak included projects of very different scales, from large commercial productions to films where Hashmi occupied a supporting or negative role.

‘Selfiee’ emerged as the biggest setback

Among the films in this period, Selfiee stands out as one of the most expensive disappointments.

The film featured Akshay Kumar alongside Emraan Hashmi and was reportedly made on a budget of close to Rs 100 crore. Despite the presence of two established stars, the film struggled at the box office.

According to the cited analysis, Selfiee suffered an estimated loss of 83.5%, making it one of the most damaging films in Hashmi’s recent run.

The performance also highlighted how even recognizable star combinations can fail when audience interest does not translate into theatrical footfall.

‘Tiger 3’ was the exception in the difficult run

Interestingly, not every film in Hashmi’s recent run was equally damaging.

Tiger 3, in which Hashmi played the antagonist opposite Salman Khan, reportedly emerged as the least financially damaging project among his last five films.

The film itself had a massive scale and benefited from the established Tiger franchise. While it did not deliver the kind of performance that might have been expected from such a major release, its financial impact was comparatively less severe for Hashmi’s recent filmography.

His role also demonstrated that the actor could remain effective outside the traditional solo-hero format.

Why ‘Awarapan 2’ matters so much

The significance of Awarapan 2 lies in the fact that Hashmi is once again carrying a film as the lead.

The actor has enjoyed memorable successes throughout his career, particularly during the 2000s and early 2010s, but his recent theatrical journey has been far less consistent.

Crossing Rs 100 crore as a lead therefore represents a significant personal milestone.

The film’s performance has also revived interest in Hashmi as a solo protagonist rather than simply a supporting performer, antagonist or part of a larger ensemble.

A decade-long wait for a major turnaround

For Hashmi, the timing could hardly be more important.

The actor had gone through roughly a decade without a major theatrical success on this scale. During that period, the Hindi film industry itself underwent significant changes, with audiences becoming more selective and competition from streaming platforms altering the economics of theatrical releases.

Against that backdrop, Awarapan 2 has managed to give Hashmi something he had been missing for years: momentum.

The film’s run is still being tracked, meaning its final box-office verdict could become even stronger depending on how it performs in the coming days.

From career slump to a possible new chapter

Box-office numbers can never tell the entire story of an actor’s career, but in Hashmi’s case, the contrast is hard to ignore.

A reported Rs 740 crore investment across his previous five films resulted in significant losses, while Awarapan 2 has already crossed a milestone that none of his earlier films as a lead had achieved.

The turnaround also reinforces just how unpredictable Bollywood can be. An actor can go through years of disappointing releases and still return with a project that reconnects with audiences.

For Emraan Hashmi, Awarapan 2 could therefore prove to be more than a successful film. It may be the beginning of a new phase in his career one where the actor once again gets the opportunity to headline films built around his screen presence.
