Vijay Varma Wins Best Performance at IFFM 2026, Gets Called ‘Nation’s Biggest Red Flag’… His Reply Steals the Show
Vijay Varma took home the Best Performance award for Matka King at IFFM 2026, but it was his hilarious exchange with Dolly Singh that became one of the evening’s most entertaining moments.
Vijay Varma had another reason to celebrate at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2026, where the actor was honoured with the Best Performance award for his work in Matka King.
Known for portraying layered, intense and morally complicated characters, Vijay has built a reputation for bringing a certain unpredictability to his performances. At the awards ceremony, however, it was his sense of humour that took centre stage.
During the event, Dolly Singh congratulated Vijay before playfully describing him as the “nation’s biggest red flag” on screen.
Dolly Singh’s ‘red flag’ remark leaves Vijay laughing
Dolly’s comment was a reference to the kind of characters Vijay frequently portrays. She joked that whenever the actor appears in a scene, audiences often get the feeling that someone is about to land in trouble.
The influencer-actor also highlighted the contrast between Vijay’s intimidating on-screen persona and his personality away from the camera.
Her playful roast had both Vijay and the audience laughing, turning what could have been a routine congratulatory moment into one of the more memorable exchanges of the evening.
Vijay Varma’s comeback takes the roast further
Never one to miss an opportunity for a witty response, Vijay quickly fired back at Dolly.

Responding to her “red flag” comment, the actor joked:“Just buy a piece of red cloth and keep it at home, and make as many flags as you want.”
Dolly was quick to respond, calling Vijay’s comeback a “lame joke.”
But Vijay was not about to let the criticism pass.
Turning the joke back on her, he replied:“Just as I let go of your terrible compliments aside.”
The exchange left both actors laughing as the playful back-and-forth continued.

Dolly eventually jokingly told Vijay that she would let him go before he had another opportunity to roast her.
A lighter moment on Vijay Varma’s big night
It remains unclear whether the exchange between Vijay Varma and Dolly Singh was planned beforehand or simply developed spontaneously during the ceremony.
Either way, the playful interaction offered audiences a glimpse of Vijay’s quick wit and easy humour, away from the intense characters that have become synonymous with his acting career.
The moment also added a lighter touch to what was otherwise a major professional achievement for the actor. With his Best Performance win for Matka King, Vijay Varma continues to strengthen his position as one of the most distinctive performers in contemporary Indian cinema.
While his characters may continue to earn him the “red flag” label on screen, his witty comeback at IFFM 2026 proved that the actor is more than capable of turning the joke around when the spotlight is on him.
