‘Hero’s Wife Doesn’t Like You’: Taapsee Pannu Reveals ‘Worst Reason’ She Was Replaced From a Film

Taapsee Pannu has never shied away from speaking about the difficult side of the film industry, and the actor has now recalled one of the most unusual explanations she says she received for being dropped from a movie.

During a conversation with Nayandeep Rakshit, Taapsee spoke about being replaced from projects despite her dates already being confirmed. While she says she was sometimes left without any clear explanation, one reason in particular has stayed with her.

According to Taapsee, she was once told: “The hero’s wife doesn’t like you.”

The actor described it as the “worst reason” she had been given for being replaced.

Taapsee Says She Was Removed After Dates Were Confirmed

Recalling another experience, Taapsee said she had been told that the male lead of a film wanted her replaced.

What frustrated her was the absence of a concrete explanation.

“I have been told that I was replaced by the hero of the film. God knows the reason,” she said.

Taapsee explained that without a direct answer, she was left imagining different possibilities — including whether the actor wanted to work with someone he was closer to.

She said she repeatedly asked why she had been removed, only to eventually be told that the hero did not want her in the project.

Taapsee did not identify the film, the male actor or anyone else involved while discussing the incident.

‘The Hero’s Wife Doesn’t Like You’

Taapsee then revealed the explanation she found particularly difficult to understand.

“The worst reason given to me when I was replaced was, ‘The hero’s wife doesn’t like you.’ I don’t know why she didn’t like me,” she recalled.

She did not disclose the identity of the actor or his wife, leaving the project she was referring to unnamed.

The revelation offers another glimpse into the behind-the-scenes uncertainties actors can face, particularly when casting decisions change without a formal explanation.

The conversation also turned to another uncomfortable experience from Taapsee’s early career.

The actor admitted that when she was new to filmmaking, she did not always understand how scenes being shot on set would eventually appear after editing.

Taapsee said there were instances where she expected the final presentation to look aesthetically glamorous, only to later feel that the scene had been unnecessarily sexualised.

“I didn’t know it was hypersexualised. You only realise it when you see the output,” she said.

According to Taapsee, an actor may not immediately understand the direction a sequence is taking while filming individual shots.

“When I saw it, I felt like it was unnecessary,” she added.

‘I Thought It Was Part and Parcel of the Job’

Taapsee also explained how being a newcomer influenced the way she reacted to such situations.

With little knowledge of acting or filmmaking at the time, she said she depended on people around her to understand what was considered normal in the industry.

When she was told that “everybody is doing it,” Taapsee initially wondered whether her discomfort simply came from entering cinema from a different background.

“I didn’t have a clue about acting or filmmaking, so I thought it was part and parcel of the job, only to realise later that it’s not necessary,” she said.

Experience eventually changed that understanding.

For Taapsee, being glamorous on screen does not mean an actor necessarily has to be sexualised.

“You can be glamorous in a film without being hypersexualised,” she said.

Taapsee’s remarks highlight two very different challenges she says she encountered during her career unexplained casting decisions and learning to understand how an actor’s image can be shaped during filming and in the final edit.
