2027 ODI World Cup Schedule Coming on October 1… ICC Set to Reveal Fixtures and Open Ticket Ballot
The countdown to the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is about to get serious. The tournament schedule is set to be unveiled in Cape Town on October 1, with fans also expected to be able to register for the official ticket ballot from the same day.
Cricket fans waiting to plan for the 2027 ODI World Cup may finally want to circle one date on their calendars:

The International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) are set to unveil the schedule for the next Men’s Cricket World Cup in Cape Town on Thursday, October 1, according to Cricbuzz.
The event will mark approximately one year until the tournament returns to Africa, with South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia jointly hosting the competition.
And the fixture announcement won’t be the only major development.
The ticket ballot is also set to launch on the same day.

According to the latest report, the full World Cup schedule will be unveiled at an event in Cape Town on Thursday, October 1.
That should provide answers to some of the biggest questions surrounding the tournament — including who plays whom, where the biggest matches will be staged and how the new-look competition will unfold.
The ICC has already confirmed 12 host venues across the three countries: eight in South Africa, three in Zimbabwe and one in Namibia.
World Cup set to begin on October 2, 2027
Cricbuzz reports that the tournament is scheduled to begin on October 2, 2027, and conclude with the final on November 21.
The proposed opening date is particularly notable for Indian fans because October 2 is Gandhi Jayanti, marking the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The October 1 fixture announcement should provide the complete match-by-match calendar and clarify the final dates and venues.
Ticket ballot also set to open
Fans won’t necessarily be able to immediately purchase their World Cup tickets when the schedule is announced.
Instead, a ticket ballot registration process is expected to open on October 1.
Supporters will be able to register for the ballot, beginning the process of securing tickets for matches at the tournament.
The ICC had already invited supporters to register their interest for ticket-sale information when it unveiled the tournament’s host cities and branding in July.
14 teams will compete — but there’s a completely new format
The 2027 World Cup will feature 14 teams, expanding from the 10-team field used at the previous men’s ODI World Cup.
More significantly, the ICC has introduced a new multi-stage competition structure.
The tournament begins with a Super Series involving the three lowest-ranked qualified teams. They will play a round-robin competition, with the leading side progressing.
The next stage will feature 12 teams divided into two groups of six, followed by a Super 7 stage.
The top four teams from the Super 7 will then advance to the semi-finals before the final determines the world champion.
Qualification deadline arrives just before schedule reveal
The timing of the fixture announcement is also significant because September 30 is the qualification cut-off.
According to Cricbuzz, 10 of the 14 participating teams will be identifiable by then.
South Africa and Zimbabwe receive places as hosts, while another eight teams are set to qualify through the relevant ICC ODI rankings.
The remaining four positions will be filled through the qualification tournament.
Why doesn’t co-host Namibia automatically qualify?
One unusual feature of the qualification system involves Namibia.
Although Namibia is one of the three countries hosting the World Cup, its place in the tournament itself is not automatically guaranteed.
Unlike South Africa and Zimbabwe, Namibia will have to earn qualification.
That creates the possibility of a country hosting World Cup matches without its national team participating unless it successfully navigates the qualification pathway.

India among teams positioned for direct qualification
As things currently stand, Cricbuzz reports that India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are positioned to take the eight ranking-based qualification places.
South Africa, despite sitting among the leading ODI teams, does not consume one of those eight ranking positions because it qualifies as a host.
That situation potentially benefits Bangladesh, while West Indies are currently facing the qualification route instead.
The final direct-qualification picture will depend on the standings at the September 30 cut-off.
World Cup returns to Africa after 24 years
tournament will also represent a major moment for African cricket.
The Men’s ODI World Cup last took place in Africa in 2003, when South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya staged matches.
Twenty-four years later, the tournament will return with South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia sharing hosting responsibilities.
For Namibia, it will be an especially significant occasion, with the country hosting matches at the senior Men’s Cricket World Cup for the first time.
