CID’s Iconic Trio Reunites After Years… But ACP Pradyuman, Daya and Abhijeet Won’t Be Who Fans Remember

For millions of Indian television viewers, ACP Pradyuman, Inspector Daya and Inspector Abhijeet were more than characters in a crime show. They became part of pop culture.

Now, the actors behind that iconic trio Shivaji Satam, Dayanand Shetty and Aditya Srivastava are sharing the screen again in a new crime drama.

But this isn’t simply CID under another name.

The new project, titled Paapanasham: Where Crime Ends, will bring back several familiar faces from the long-running crime series while placing them in an entirely different world, with new characters, identities and stories.

The reunion fans have been waiting for

The project was revealed on September 22, when Dayanand Shetty, remembered by generations of viewers as Inspector Daya, shared a video on Instagram featuring several of his former CID co-stars.

For anyone who grew up hearing the legendary line “Daya, darwaza tod do”, seeing the team together again was bound to bring back memories.

However, the announcement also made it clear that Paapanasham isn’t being built purely around nostalgia.

Shivaji Satam, best known as ACP Pradyuman, revealed that shooting has already begun in Mangalore and Udupi.

Same familiar faces, completely different characters

Perhaps the most interesting detail came from Aditya Srivastava, who became synonymous with Inspector Abhijeet during his years on CID.

While Paapanasham remains rooted in the crime-drama genre, the actors will reportedly not reprise their famous CID roles.

Instead, audiences will see them with different character names, backgrounds and identities.

That distinction could prove important. Rather than attempting to recreate the old formula, the makers appear to be using the chemistry of a much-loved ensemble to build something new.

Dayanand Shetty turns producer

The project also represents a significant new chapter for Dayanand Shetty.

Paapanasham is being backed by The Daya Shetty Productions, with the actor taking on responsibilities behind the camera as well.

Calling the project “very close to our hearts,” Shetty described it as a “new beginning for all of us.”

Given his long association with crime television, his move into production adds another layer of interest to the reunion.

More CID favourites are coming back

The familiar faces don’t stop with Satam, Shetty and Srivastava.

Ansha Sayed, remembered as Inspector Purvi, is also part of the cast. She has asked viewers who supported CID for years to extend similar affection to the new project.

Hrishikesh Pandey, who played Inspector Sachin, and Ajay Nagrath, remembered as Inspector Pankaj, have also joined the ensemble.

Nagrath indicated that filming is progressing smoothly, with the cast fully involved in bringing their new characters to life.

Taken together, the lineup makes Paapanasham feel like a reunion even if none of the characters technically are.

‘Paapanasham: Where Crime Ends’

At the end of the announcement video, the cast came together to reveal the full title:

Paapanasham: Where Crime Ends.

The title immediately establishes the project’s crime-focused identity while separating it from the CID universe.

Another major difference is where audiences are likely to watch it.

Rather than taking the traditional television route, Paapanasham is being positioned as a web or streaming project.

Details about its streaming platform, episode count and release date are still awaited.

Not CID 2.0 and that may be the biggest surprise

For longtime fans, seeing Shivaji Satam, Dayanand Shetty and Aditya Srivastava investigating crimes together will inevitably trigger memories of CID.

But Paapanasham appears determined to establish an identity of its own.

There may be no ACP Pradyuman, no Inspector Abhijeet and perhaps no familiar command to break down a door.

What it does have is the reunion of a team whose chemistry helped define an era of Indian crime television.

And this time, audiences will get to discover who they are all over again.
