Prithviraj Sukumaran has revealed the personal trait he shares with DCP Raman Kumar, his intense character in Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra. The actor admits that despite years of trying, he still hasn’t completely mastered his anger.

Prithviraj Sukumaran may be stepping into the shoes of a fictional police officer in Daayra, but there is at least one part of DCP Raman Kumar that feels surprisingly personal to him.

During an exclusive conversation with Filmfare, Prithviraj opened up about his long-standing struggle with anger something he had publicly acknowledged years ago.

Nine years later, the actor admits that progress hasn’t exactly gone according to plan.

“I have been a spectacular failure at working on my anger management issues,” Prithviraj said.

And as it turns out, that very emotion connects him with his Daayra character.

‘One of the Few Things I Identify With Raman’

Prithviraj plays DCP Raman Kumar, an officer presented as intense, grim and determined to go to extraordinary lengths in his pursuit of justice.

When discussing his anger, the actor jokingly connected the personality trait to Raman.

“That is one of the few things I identify with Raman,” he said.

The film’s trailer presents Raman as a man carrying considerable rage beneath the surface, although exactly what drives his character will only become clear when the complete story unfolds.

For Prithviraj, however, anger isn’t merely something he has explored for the role.

It’s an emotion he says he has been trying to better understand and control in his own life.

Meghna Gulzar Has a Funny Solution

Director Meghna Gulzar, who was present during the conversation, had a humorous response to Prithviraj’s candid admission.

“Just learn to hide it better,” she joked.

The exchange offered a lighter contrast to the serious subject being discussed and to the darker personality Prithviraj appears to portray in Daayra.

Fatherhood Has Changed Prithviraj

While the actor doesn’t believe he has completely overcome his anger, he does feel there has been some progress.

And he credits fatherhood with playing an important part in that change.

“It is marginally better now, and being a father has got a lot to do with that,” Prithviraj said.

The actor acknowledged that he is better at dealing with the emotion today than he was in the past.

But he isn’t claiming victory just yet.

“It is one emotion I have not mastered yet. I am still not fully in control of not becoming angry,” he admitted.
