Prabhas’ Salaar 2 Finally Moves Into Pre-Production… Prashanth Neel and Hombale Films Begin Work on the ‘Absolute Behemoth’

The wait for Prabhas fans may finally be getting closer to an answer.

The highly anticipated sequel to Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, tentatively titled Salaar 2: Shouryaanga Parvam, has reportedly entered the pre-production stage. According to a report by India Today, director Prashanth Neel and Hombale Films producer Vijay Kiragandur have started working on the sequel.

The development comes after months of speculation surrounding the project’s progress.

Prashanth Neel begins work on Salaar 2

According to sources cited in the report, Prashanth Neel and Vijay Kiragandur recently held a meeting to discuss the film’s production schedule and finalise the script.

A source reportedly said that the duo is working towards delivering a cinematic spectacle that can live up to the enormous expectations surrounding the sequel.

The makers are said to be aiming for a film that is significantly ambitious in scale, something that should not come as a surprise given the massive world established in the first instalment.

The sequel has been discussed as a major production ever since Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire ended with a dramatic cliffhanger.

‘An absolute behemoth’ — Salaar 2 gets bigger

The scale of the sequel has previously been highlighted by Vijay Kiragandur, who described Salaar 2 as an “absolute behemoth.”

That description has only increased curiosity about what Prashanth Neel has planned for the next chapter.

Earlier this year, in May, Neel had also addressed concerns that the film might have been shelved. The director reportedly assured fans that Salaar 2 was still happening and that he would return to the project after completing his work on Jr. NTR-starrer Dragon.

With the film now reportedly entering pre-production, those assurances appear to be turning into concrete progress.

What happened at the end of Salaar: Part 1?

Released in December 2023, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire introduced audiences to the fictional kingdom of Khansaar and the complicated relationship between Deva, played by Prabhas, and Varadha Raja Mannar, portrayed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.

At the centre of the story was the powerful friendship between the two men. Their bond becomes increasingly complicated as political rivalries, power struggles and violence begin to threaten their relationship.

However, the biggest twist arrived towards the end.

The film revealed that Deva belongs to the Shouryaanga tribe and is the rightful heir to the throne of Khansaar.

Varadha, meanwhile, acknowledges Deva as his Salaar.

That revelation dramatically changes the stakes and leaves the two characters positioned at the centre of a much larger conflict.

Will Prabhas and Prithviraj return?

Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran are expected to reprise their respective roles as Deva and Varadha in the sequel.

Other key cast members, including Shruti Haasan, Sriya Reddy and Jagapathi Babu, are also expected to return.

However, the makers have remained tight-lipped about the rest of the cast, story developments and production details.

Most importantly, there is no official release date for Salaar 2 yet.

That means fans may have to wait considerably longer before they finally see Deva and Varadha return to Khansaar.

Prabhas has another major film coming

While Salaar 2 remains in the early stages of development, Prabhas already has another highly anticipated project lined up.

The actor will headline Fauzi, a patriotic action drama directed by Hanu Raghavapudi.

The film is currently expected to release on December 3, 2026, adding another major project to Prabhas’ already packed lineup.

For now, however, the spotlight is firmly back on Salaar 2.

After the first film left audiences with one of the franchise’s biggest revelations, the reported beginning of pre-production suggests that Prashanth Neel is finally preparing to take the story into its next and potentially much larger chapter.

And if the makers really intend to deliver the “absolute behemoth” previously teased, the wait could be worth it.
