Delhi Police has dismissed social media claims that Jantar Mantar was locked or shut for demonstrations, confirming that the protest site remains open under specific rules and permissions.
A fresh controversy surrounding Jantar Mantar in New Delhi has been put to rest after the Delhi Police issued an official clarification regarding rumours claiming that the iconic protest venue had been closed.
On Thursday, July 30, the police rejected claims circulating on social media that Jantar Mantar had been locked or restricted from hosting protests, calling the reports “false, misleading, and devoid of facts.”
In an official statement shared on X, the Delhi Police clarified that the historic protest site continues to remain an active and authorised location for peaceful demonstrations.
Delhi Police clears confusion over Jantar Mantar
Responding to the online speculation, the police stated that Jantar Mantar remains available for citizens and organisations wishing to hold peaceful protests, provided they follow the required legal procedures.

The clarification came after several posts on social media suggested that authorities had stopped allowing demonstrations at the venue, creating confusion among users.
The police urged citizens not to believe or spread unverified information and advised people to depend only on official sources for accurate updates.
Rules remain in place for demonstrations
While confirming that protests are still permitted at Jantar Mantar, the Delhi Police highlighted that demonstrations must follow guidelines established under the directions of the Supreme Court and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued thereafter.
According to the police statement, a maximum of 1,000 people may be permitted at the venue, subject to approval from the competent authority.
Permission for protests is granted only after organisers or individuals submit a formal application and agree to follow the prescribed terms and conditions.
Jantar Mantar continues its role as a protest venue
Located in the heart of the national capital, Jantar Mantar has historically been one of India’s most recognised locations for public demonstrations, movements and peaceful expressions of opinion.
