Diljit Dosanjh Distances Himself from Jantar Mantar Protest; CJP Reacts
Diljit Dosanjh says he is “an artist, not a politician” after being asked to comment on the Cockroach Janata Party’s protest at Jantar Mantar.

Diljit Dosanjh has once again found himself at the centre of a public debate after choosing to distance himself from a political protest. The actor-singer recently clarified during an Instagram Live session that he prefers to stay away from political movements, prompting a reaction from the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).

During the live interaction, a fan requested Diljit to comment on the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Responding to the request, the actor said he wanted to be kept away from such matters, adding that he considers himself an artist rather than a politician.

Diljit also stated that he was not familiar with the specific protest being referred to and avoided taking a position on the issue. While extending good wishes to everyone involved, he maintained that he did not have enough information to comment further.

His remarks soon drew a response from Saurav Das, spokesperson for the Cockroach Janata Party, who expressed disappointment over the actor’s stance.

Speaking to the media, Saurav initially said he had no message for Diljit. However, when asked specifically about the actor’s comments, he admitted feeling saddened by the response.

According to Saurav, Diljit has a massive influence on young audiences through his music and public image. He suggested that the singer should also encourage young people by speaking about issues affecting them, rather than limiting his influence to entertainment alone.

The Cockroach Janata Party, which began as a satirical digital initiative, has recently been holding demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak controversy.

Diljit Dosanjh has previously spoken publicly on several social and public-interest issues. However, in this instance, the actor made it clear that he did not wish to be associated with the ongoing protest or engage in political commentary.

On the professional front, Diljit Dosanjh was recently seen in Imtiaz Ali’s film Main Vaapas Aaunga, alongside Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari. The film explores a love story set against the backdrop of the Partition of India, blending romance with historical events.

While Diljit’s comments have sparked discussion online, they also highlight the ongoing debate over whether celebrities should publicly engage with political and social movements or remain focused on their artistic careers.
