Prithviraj Sukumaran confirms that L3, the final part of the Lucifer trilogy, is officially in development.

Fans of the Lucifer franchise finally have reason to celebrate. Actor-filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran has confirmed that L3, the much-awaited third chapter in the blockbuster franchise, is very much on the cards.

The actor, who has been away from directing since the release of L2: Empuraan in March 2025, opened up about the future of the trilogy in a recent interview and put an end to growing uncertainty around the project.

Prithviraj revealed that Empuraan was always designed as the “middle piece” of a three-part story, and that the groundwork for the final chapter had already been laid during the making of the sequel.“L3 is definitely happening,” Prithviraj confirmed, adding that the vision for the trilogy has been clear for some time.

The filmmaker explained that while Lucifer was initially made without certainty about future installments, the massive success of the first film gave the team enough confidence to build Empuraan in a way that naturally leads into a grand finale.

Murali Gopy Has the Story Ready

According to Prithviraj, writer Murali Gopy already has a clear roadmap for the third film and has shared the concept with him.

The actor said the team intentionally ended Empuraan at a crucial point, keeping the larger arc of the story alive for the final chapter.

This update is likely to excite fans, especially considering the massive popularity of Mohanlal’s character Stephen Nedumpally, which became one of Malayalam cinema’s most iconic roles.

Busy Schedule Could Delay Production

While confirming the project, Prithviraj admitted that scheduling remains the biggest hurdle.

The actor currently has a packed slate, with back-to-back acting commitments lined up. His immediate release is i, Nobody, directed by Nisam Basheer, where he stars alongside Parvathy Thiruvothu. The film is set for release on July 9.

That will be followed by Khalifa, directed by Vysakh, scheduled to hit theatres on August 20.

Apart from these, Prithviraj is also reportedly attached to projects like Varanasi with S. S. Rajamouli, Odiyan: The Age of Illusion with Rahul Sadasivan, and even a sequel to Khalifa.

For now, there’s no official production timeline for L3, but one thing is certain — the final chapter of the Lucifer universe is no longer just a rumour.

And for fans, that may be the biggest reveal yet.
