Mohanlal is expected to return as Georgekutty as producer Antony Perumbavoor confirms plans to continue the blockbuster Drishyam franchise with Drishyam 4.

Fans of Mohanlal’s Georgekutty have another mystery to look forward to. The hugely popular Drishyam franchise is set to continue with a fourth instalment, with producer Antony Perumbavoor confirming that work on another chapter is being taken forward.

The development comes after the success of Drishyam 3, which arrived in cinemas earlier this year. While key details about Drishyam 4, including its storyline and release date, remain under wraps, Mohanlal is expected to reprise the character that has become inseparable from the franchise.

Drishyam 4 Is Happening, Producer Confirms

Speaking at a recent event, Antony Perumbavoor confirmed that the makers intend to continue the story beyond the third film.

The announcement has naturally sparked curiosity over what could possibly come next for Georgekutty and his family, whose attempts to protect one another have remained at the heart of the crime-thriller series.

However, director Jeethu Joseph has made it clear that another sequel should not be rushed simply because the franchise has been successful.

Jeethu Joseph Doesn’t Want to Rush Georgekutty’s Next Chapter

In an earlier conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Jeethu Joseph revealed that discussions about continuing the franchise have repeatedly surfaced after each instalment.

The filmmaker explained that he wants enough time to develop the story and characters, rather than moving ahead with another film purely to capitalise on the franchise’s popularity.

His approach could prove crucial for Drishyam 4, especially considering how closely audiences scrutinise every twist and decision made by Georgekutty.

Why Georgekutty Became an Iconic Character

At the centre of Drishyam is Georgekutty, an ordinary family man capable of extraordinary planning when the safety of his loved ones is threatened.

The combination of family drama, crime, suspense and carefully constructed twists helped the Malayalam original become a phenomenon, while Mohanlal’s restrained performance turned Georgekutty into one of Indian cinema’s most recognisable thriller characters.

The franchise’s popularity eventually travelled far beyond Malayalam cinema, inspiring adaptations in several languages.

In Hindi, Ajay Devgn took on the role of Vijay Salgaonkar in Drishyam and Drishyam 2, bringing the story to an even larger nationwide audience.

Drishyam 3 Continued the Franchise’s Success

Drishyam 3 was released theatrically on May 21, 2026, with Mohanlal once again leading the cast alongside Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Siddique, Murali Gopy and Asha Sharath.

The film reportedly collected around Rs 249 crore worldwide, once again demonstrating the audience’s continued fascination with Georgekutty’s story.

The journey began with the original Drishyam, released on December 19, 2013. Made on a comparatively modest budget, the thriller went on to become a major success and laid the foundation for a franchise few could have predicted at the time.

Drishyam 2 followed in 2021, releasing directly on Amazon Prime Video, before the story eventually returned to cinemas with its third instalment.

Now, with Drishyam 4 officially being planned, the biggest question is no longer whether Georgekutty will return but what new danger could possibly force him to outthink everyone once again?
