India’s SUV market is preparing for its biggest hybrid revolution yet. With rising fuel prices, increasing demand for cleaner mobility, and growing interest in long-distance driving capability, car manufacturers are bringing a new wave of strong-hybrid and plug-in hybrid SUVs to Indian roads.
The second half of 2026 is expected to witness the arrival of several major hybrid SUVs, including the upcoming Renault Duster Hybrid, Honda ZR-V, Kia Sorento and other electrified SUVs targeting different price segments.
Many of these models promise impressive combined driving ranges of more than 1,000 km, bringing hybrid technology closer to mainstream Indian buyers.
MG Starlight 560 PHEV: Long Range Hybrid SUV Expected Soon
The upcoming MG Starlight 560 PHEV is expected to become one of the most interesting additions to India’s plug-in hybrid segment.
The SUV has been spotted during testing in India, and MG Motor India has reportedly filed design-related approvals for the model.
The plug-in hybrid version is expected to combine a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 20.5 kWh battery pack. The setup could offer a real-world driving range of over 1,100 km with a fully charged battery and a full fuel tank.
A fully electric version with a larger 56.7 kWh battery exists globally, although its India launch details remain unclear.

Renault Duster Hybrid: Affordable Strong Hybrid SUV Coming
The return of the iconic Renault Duster is already creating excitement, but the biggest attraction could be its upcoming hybrid version.
Currently, the Duster is available with petrol and mild-hybrid options, but Renault has confirmed plans to introduce a proper strong-hybrid powertrain in India.
The hybrid Duster is expected to use a 1.8-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 1.4 kWh battery, producing approximately 157.8 hp.
With an expected price between ₹16.50 lakh and ₹19.50 lakh, the Duster Hybrid could become one of the most affordable strong-hybrid SUVs available in India.

JSW Jetour T2: Boxy SUV With Plug-In Hybrid Technology
The upcoming Jetour T2 could mark JSW Group’s entry into India’s premium SUV market.
Known globally for its rugged boxy design, the T2 is expected to arrive in both hybrid and non-hybrid versions.
The plug-in hybrid variant is likely to feature a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 26.7 kWh battery pack. It could offer nearly 100 km of electric-only range and an overall range between 1,000 km and 1,200 km.
The model is expected to arrive through the CKD route, which may help JSW maintain competitive pricing.

Kia Sorento Hybrid: Premium Seven-Seater SUV Arrives
The premium SUV segment will also see a major addition with the arrival of the Kia Sorento.
The seven-seater SUV has been spotted testing in India multiple times, and Kia India is expected to launch it before the end of 2026 with a strong-hybrid powertrain.
Globally, the Sorento is offered with advanced hybrid technology, premium interiors, and features such as dual 12.3-inch displays, a Bose audio system, and multiple safety technologies.
India is expected to receive a turbo-petrol hybrid setup with either a 1.5-litre or 1.6-litre engine.

Honda ZR-V Hybrid: Premium Hybrid SUV Ready For India
The Honda ZR-V is set to enter India as a premium hybrid SUV and will compete with larger SUVs rather than traditional mid-size models.
Arriving as a CBU import, the ZR-V will initially be offered in a fully loaded single variant. Deliveries are expected from July 2026.
The SUV will use Honda’s advanced 2.0-litre e strong-hybrid system, producing 184 hp and 315 Nm of combined torque.
Honda claims an impressive fuel efficiency figure of 22.80 kmpl under ARAI testing conditions.
The feature list is expected to include:
