Audi’s Smallest EV Can Travel Up to 646 Km on a Charge; A2 e-tron Revealed With Surprising Starting Price…

Audi has officially revealed the A2 e-tron, its smallest electric vehicle and a new entry point into the German luxury carmaker’s EV range in Europe.

Despite its compact positioning, the Audi A2 e-tron isn’t short on headline numbers. Depending on the configuration, buyers can get up to 646 km of claimed WLTP range, while the most efficient version consumes just 12.8kWh per 100 km.

That makes it the most efficient series-production Audi yet, according to the company.

Developed in Germany, the A2 e-tron will be manufactured at Audi’s Ingolstadt plant. European orders are scheduled to open on September 10, 2026, with customer deliveries beginning in December.

Prices in Germany start at €38,200, equivalent to approximately ₹42.24 lakh before considering differences in taxes and market-specific pricing.

Up to 646 km range from three battery choices

Audi will offer the A2 e-tron with three battery capacities — 52kWh, 61kWh and 84kWh.

The 52kWh and 61kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries deliver claimed WLTP driving ranges of up to 423 km and 515 km, respectively.

Buyers prioritising maximum range will want the larger 84kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery.

Paired with the 170kW motor, this battery delivers the range champion of the lineup at a claimed 646 km.

The more powerful 240kW version uses the same 84kWh battery but sacrifices some efficiency for performance, offering up to 630 km of claimed range.

Four power outputs, but all are rear-wheel drive

The Audi A2 e-tron will be available with 125kW, 140kW, 170kW and 240kW power outputs.

All four versions use a permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor and send power to the rear wheels.

Torque output stands at 350Nm on the first three configurations, while the flagship 240kW model increases that figure substantially to 545Nm.

Audi has therefore managed to offer both efficiency-focused and performance-oriented versions without changing the basic rear-wheel-drive architecture.

10-80% charging takes 29 minutes

Charging performance varies depending on the battery.

The 52kWh battery supports up to 100kW DC charging, while the 61kWh version increases the maximum to 105kW.

The larger 84kWh battery supports significantly faster 183kW DC charging.

Audi claims this version can complete a 10-80% charge in around 29 minutes under suitable fast-charging conditions.

Four levels of regenerative braking are also available, including a one-pedal driving mode that allows stronger deceleration when the driver lifts off the accelerator.

How Audi made its smallest EV so efficient

Aerodynamics have played an important role in extracting maximum range from the battery.

The A2 e-tron achieves a 0.24 drag coefficient, helped by features including an enclosed underbody, controllable cooling-air intake, aerodynamic wheels and flush-fitting electric door handles.

The result is a compact electric Audi designed to minimise energy consumption rather than simply relying on a larger battery for additional range.

Compact outside, surprisingly practical inside

The A2 e-tron has a 2.77-metre wheelbase and provides 396 litres of luggage capacity behind the rear seats.

Folding those seats increases storage capacity to 1,336 litres.

The 170kW and 240kW versions gain another 13-litre front storage compartment, or frunk.

Inside, Audi’s familiar digital approach continues with the standard MMI panoramic display.

It combines an 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus digital instrument cluster with a 12.8-inch curved touchscreen infotainment system.

AI assistant and massive panoramic roof

Technology features extend beyond the two displays.

The A2 e-tron offers an AI-enabled Audi assistant, e-tron route planner and two wireless smartphone charging points capable of delivering up to 25W.

Buyers can also specify an enormous 1.6-square-metre panoramic glass roof.

Standard driver-assistance and safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, emergency braking assistance, driver attention assistance, reversing camera and Parking System Plus.

It can even power external appliances

The A2 e-tron also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing energy stored in the battery to power compatible external electrical appliances.

Audi will go another step in selected European markets with Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality.

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, owners with compatible DC wall boxes will be able to use energy stored in their vehicle to help supply their homes.

Audi says development was dramatically quicker

There is another interesting story behind the car.

Audi says the A2 e-tron was developed 21 months faster than comparable earlier models.

The Ingolstadt production line also makes extensive use of existing infrastructure. More than 1,200 manufacturing assets are being reused, including approximately 250 robots previously employed in the production of other Audi vehicles.

That approach could help reduce the cost and complexity associated with introducing a completely new EV.

How much does the Audi A2 e-tron cost?

In Germany, the entry-level A2 e-tron starts at €38,200.

The 61kWh version costs from €41,900, while the 170kW model starts at €48,900. The flagship 240kW configuration is priced from €51,200.

Converted directly, the entry-level European price works out to roughly ₹42.24 lakh, although such conversions do not indicate what the vehicle would cost if introduced in India because of differences in duties, taxes and market positioning.

Will Audi A2 e-tron launch in India?

This is where Indian buyers may be disappointed.

Audi has not announced an India launch for the A2 e-tron, and the company’s European announcement does not provide an Indian launch timeline.

As a result, any speculation surrounding its Indian availability or pricing would be premature.

For Europe, however, the A2 e-tron presents an interesting proposition: Audi’s smallest electric car is also its most efficient production model, while the longest-range version promises an impressive 646 km between charges.

If Audi eventually decides to bring it to India, its combination of compact dimensions, premium technology and long driving range could make it one of the brand’s most interesting electric offerings for the market.
