Mercedes-Maybach S 580e launched in India at ₹3.35 crore: Only 30 units are coming, but its 98km electric range isn’t the biggest surprise…
Mercedes-Benz has introduced its first electrified Maybach in India, combining a 3.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor for 577 hp, while offering an ultra-luxury rear cabin, 60kW DC charging and Level 2 ADAS.
Mercedes-Benz has expanded its ultra-luxury portfolio in India with the launch of the Mercedes-Maybach S 580e, marking the arrival of the country’s first electrified Maybach model.
Priced at ₹3.35 crore (ex-showroom), the plug-in hybrid luxury sedan will be an exceptionally rare sight on Indian roads. Mercedes-Benz has initially allocated just 30 units of the S 580e for the Indian market.
While the car retains the unmistakable luxury of the Maybach S-Class, the biggest change lies underneath. The S 580e combines a six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor, allowing it to cover up to 98km using electric power alone under the WLTP testing cycle.
Mercedes-Maybach S 580e gets an unmistakable Maybach look
The S 580e receives several design details that distinguish it from the regular Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Up front, there is an illuminated Maybach grille, complete with Maybach lettering along its upper edge, while the traditional Mercedes three-pointed star continues to sit prominently on the bonnet.
The headlights feature rose-gold detailing and Mercedes’ Digital Light technology with adaptive high-beam assistance.
Buyers also get a MANUFAKTUR two-tone paint finish, further highlighting the sedan’s premium positioning.
Compared with the standard long-wheelbase S-Class, the Maybach is 180mm longer, creating additional space for rear passengers.
It rides on 20-inch forged Maybach wheels fitted with 255/40-section tyres. Other premium touches include illuminated door sills, Maybach logos on the D-pillars and logo projection when the doors are opened.
Being a plug-in hybrid, the car gets separate openings for fuel and charging on opposite sides.
The real luxury is waiting in the rear seats
The cabin is where the Maybach S 580e makes its strongest luxury statement.
Mercedes-Benz has used Maybach-specific Nappa leather finished in a crystal white and silver-grey pearl combination, complemented by piano lacquer trim.
The car also receives a wood-and-leather steering wheel, Maybach-specific pedals and customised seat-belt buckles.
Rear-seat passengers are treated to executive seats, dual entertainment displays and a full-length business console.
The equipment list also includes folding tables, wireless charging, automatic comfort doors and a rear comfort package, reinforcing the S 580e’s chauffeur-driven credentials.
31-speaker Burmester system brings serious audio power
The entertainment setup is equally extravagant.
Mercedes-Benz has equipped the S 580e with a 1,610-watt Burmester 4D sound system, featuring an impressive 31 speakers and eight tweeters.
The front passenger receives a dedicated display with a privacy function, while the driver gets a 3D instrument display.
There is also an augmented-reality head-up display that can project turn-by-turn navigation information into the driver’s field of view.
Safety equipment includes Level 2 ADAS, Mercedes’ PRE-SAFE system and a total of 15 airbags.
577 hp from petrol-electric powertrain
Under the bonnet sits a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine, producing 437 hp and 560 Nm of torque.
It is paired with a 9G-TRONIC transmission.

The electric motor contributes another 158 hp and 480 Nm, drawing its energy from a 22kW battery pack.
Combined, the plug-in hybrid system produces 577 hp and 750 Nm of torque.
Power is delivered to all four wheels as standard.
Despite being a large luxury sedan focused heavily on rear-seat comfort, the S 580e is far from slow.
0-100km/h in just 4.8 seconds
Mercedes-Benz claims the Maybach S 580e can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds.
Its top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.

The luxury sedan also features up to 10 degrees of rear-axle steering, which should make the lengthy car easier to manoeuvre, particularly in tight urban spaces.
An AIRMATIC suspension system takes care of ride comfort.
Can you drive a Maybach without using petrol?
For shorter journeys, potentially yes.
Mercedes-Benz claims an electric-only WLTP range of up to 98km, meaning many everyday urban journeys could theoretically be completed without starting the petrol engine, depending on driving conditions and battery charge.
The S 580e comes with an 11kW AC onboard charger and also supports up to 60kW DC fast charging at compatible charging stations.
Its plug-in hybrid powertrain has a claimed weighted WLTP combined fuel efficiency of 34.48km/litre.
As with all WLTP figures, however, real-world electric range and fuel economy will vary depending on factors including driving style, traffic, temperature and battery usage.
A Maybach with a different kind of luxury
The Mercedes-Maybach S 580e is unlikely to be defined by fuel savings alone. At ₹3.35 crore before options and on-road costs, its appeal lies firmly in the world of ultra-luxury motoring.
What the plug-in hybrid system does is add another dimension to the Maybach experience.
Owners still get the extravagant rear seats, high-end materials, enormous sound system and effortless performance expected from a Maybach, but now with the ability to travel significant distances using electric power alone.
And with only 30 units initially allocated to India, exclusivity could ultimately become one of the S 580e’s biggest selling points.
