Mercedes-AMG E 53 PHEV India Launch on July 23: 612 hp Hybrid Sedan with 3.8-Second Sprint
Mercedes-Benz India will launch the new Mercedes-AMG E 53 PHEV on July 23, featuring a 612 hp hybrid powertrain and a claimed 0-100 km/h time of just 3.8 seconds.

New Delhi: Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed that the highly anticipated Mercedes-AMG E 53 PHEV will make its Indian debut on July 23, 2026. Returning to the country in an all-new plug-in hybrid sedan form, the performance luxury car promises to combine electrified efficiency with AMG’s trademark driving dynamics.

The E 53 badge was previously offered in India on the Cabriolet, but the latest generation marks the first time the performance sedan arrives with plug-in hybrid technology. Customer bookings are expected to open shortly before launch, with deliveries likely to begin soon after.

In terms of pricing and positioning, the new AMG sedan is expected to compete closely with premium performance cars such as the BMW M3 Competition and the Audi RS5 Sportback.

Power Meets Electrification

Under the bonnet, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 PHEV is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine, producing 449 hp on its own.

The engine is paired with an electric motor integrated into the 9-speed automatic transmission, generating an additional 163 hp. Together, the hybrid setup delivers a combined output of 585 hp and 750 Nm of torque.

For buyers seeking even more excitement, Mercedes will also offer the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package, which boosts total output to 612 hp through the brand’s Race Start launch control system.

It is equipped with a 21.2 kWh usable battery pack, offering a claimed electric-only driving range of over 100 kilometres. In EV mode, the sedan can reach speeds of up to 140 km/h, allowing owners to complete many daily commutes without using the petrol engine.

Luxury Cabin with Advanced Technology

Inside, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 PHEV combines luxury with sporty character.

The cabin features AMG sports seats finished with exclusive upholstery and red contrast stitching, along with a specially designed AMG steering wheel.

Technology is equally impressive, with the dashboard housing:

  • 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster
  • 14.4-inch MBUX infotainment touchscreen

International versions can also be equipped with the optional MBUX Superscreen, which adds a dedicated display for the front passenger, further enhancing the premium experience.

A New Benchmark for Performance Hybrids?

With electrification becoming an increasingly important part of the luxury automotive industry, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 PHEV represents a significant step forward for AMG enthusiasts.

Offering supercar-like acceleration, everyday electric driving capability and premium comfort in a single package, the sedan aims to bridge the gap between traditional performance cars and modern hybrid technology.
