Nissan Motor India has officially introduced the much-awaited Nissan Tekton in the Indian market, bringing a fresh contender to one of the country’s most competitive SUV segments. Built on the same platform as the Renault Duster, the new Tekton arrives with two turbo-petrol engine options, multiple transmission choices, and competitive introductory pricing.

Alongside the launch, Nissan also revealed the ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figures for every engine and gearbox combination, giving prospective buyers a clearer picture of what to expect from the new SUV.

ARAI-Certified Mileage of Nissan Tekton

The entry-level T160 variant is powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. According to Nissan, this version delivers an ARAI-claimed mileage of 19.4 kmpl, making it the most fuel-efficient option in the lineup.

Buyers looking for more performance can opt for the T280 variant, which is equipped with a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.

The fuel efficiency figures for the T280 are:

  • 6-speed Manual: 17.8 kmpl
  • 6-speed Dual-Clutch Automatic (DCT): 18.5 kmpl

Interestingly, the automatic version returns slightly better claimed mileage than the manual variant, a trend becoming increasingly common with modern dual-clutch transmissions.

Engine Specifications

The 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine develops 100 PS of maximum power at 5,000 rpm and 166 Nm of peak torque between 2,000 and 3,750 rpm. This engine is offered exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Meanwhile, the more powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 163 PS at 5,250 rpm and 280 Nm of torque between 2,000 and 3,500 rpm. Customers can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed DCT automatic.

Acceleration Figures Reveal an Interesting Twist

While the automatic transmission is expected to attract urban buyers, the performance figures tell an interesting story.

The smaller 1.0-litre engine completes the 0-100 kmph sprint in 12.46 seconds.

The 1.3-litre DCT automatic reaches 100 kmph in 9.89 seconds.

However, the quickest version of the Tekton is actually the 1.3-litre manual, which records a 0-100 kmph time of just 9.51 seconds, making it the fastest variant in the entire range.

Price and Variants

The Nissan Tekton is priced from ₹10.49 lakh and goes up to ₹18.59 lakh (both prices are introductory ex-showroom).

Nissan has clarified that these launch prices are introductory in nature and may be revised upward in the coming months.

Competition in the Segment

The new Tekton enters one of India’s busiest SUV categories and will compete with several established models, including the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Škoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and the upcoming Tata Sierra.

With its combination of turbocharged engines, competitive pricing, respectable fuel efficiency and strong performance figures, Nissan hopes the Tekton will strengthen its position in India’s fast-growing midsize SUV market.

Whether the Tekton can carve out space against long-established rivals will become clearer in the months ahead, but its launch certainly gives buyers another compelling option to consider.
