Mercedes-Benz Takes a Big Leap: Every Car Sold Since January 2026 Is Now E25 Fuel-Ready

Mercedes-Benz India has announced that every passenger vehicle sold by the company since January 2026 is fully compatible with E25 ethanol-blended petrol. The move makes the luxury carmaker one of the first in India to prepare its entire portfolio for higher ethanol blends, even before any official mandate comes into effect.

The announcement follows India’s successful rollout of E20 petrol, with the government now laying the groundwork for even higher ethanol-blended fuels.

Prepared For Future Fuel Regulations

The development comes as the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recently introduced technical standards for E22, E25, E27 and E30 fuel blends. These standards are expected to support the government’s long-term strategy of increasing ethanol usage in the country’s fuel mix.

Speaking during the launch of the Mercedes-AMG E 53, Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, said the company has proactively updated its vehicle lineup in anticipation of future regulations.

According to Iyer, luxury car buyers expect Mercedes-Benz to remain ahead of regulatory changes, and the company wants to ensure its products are ready regardless of when new fuel standards are introduced.

A Step Ahead Of Industry Requirements

Mercedes-Benz has been preparing for ethanol-blended fuels for several years.

The company had already made its entire India portfolio E20-compatible in 2020, well before the nationwide rollout of E20 petrol. The latest transition to E25 compliance continues that strategy of staying ahead of evolving environmental and fuel regulations.

Fuel Quality Still A Key Concern

While supporting the shift towards higher ethanol blends, Mercedes-Benz has also highlighted the importance of maintaining consistent fuel quality.

The company has previously warned that fuel adulteration or inconsistent quality could affect vehicle performance and reliability. It has therefore called for strict quality control measures as India gradually adopts higher ethanol-blended fuels.

According to the automaker, maintaining high fuel standards will be just as important as increasing ethanol content.

Multiple Powertrains To Continue

Mercedes-Benz also reaffirmed that it will continue offering customers a wide range of propulsion technologies in India.

Its portfolio will include internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), giving buyers flexibility based on their driving needs.

The newly launched Mercedes-AMG E 53 is the company’s second plug-in hybrid model in India after the S-Class Plug-in Hybrid and also becomes the first electrified AMG E-Class introduced in the country.

Balanced Strategy For The Indian Market

Mercedes-Benz believes Indian customers continue to show strong demand for both conventional petrol-powered luxury vehicles and electrified models.

By keeping its product range diversified while preparing for future fuel regulations, the company aims to remain well-positioned as India’s automotive market gradually transitions towards cleaner mobility solutions.
