JSW MG Hector Hawk India Launch Confirmed for August 28: EV and Plug-in Hybrid SUVs Set to Debut

New Delhi: JSW MG Motor India has confirmed that it will unveil its all-new MG Hector Hawk SUV on August 28, marking a significant milestone for the company. The upcoming model will become the first vehicle in India to be built on MG’s new ADAPT platform, which has been developed to support multiple electrified powertrains.

The Hector Hawk is expected to be positioned above the current MG Hector, expanding the brand’s premium SUV portfolio with both battery electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) options.

Inspired by the Global Wuling Starlight 560

The upcoming SUV is expected to be based on the Wuling Starlight 560, a global model from MG’s parent group. Measuring 4,700mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,700mm in height, the Hector Hawk is likely to offer generous cabin space and a commanding road presence.

Camouflaged test vehicles spotted on Indian roads suggest that the production model will closely resemble its international counterpart.

Modern Exterior Design

The MG Hector Hawk is expected to feature a contemporary design with several premium styling elements, including:

• Rectangular LED headlamps
• Dual-layer LED daytime running lights (DRLs)
• Closed front grille on the electric version
• Wraparound LED tail lamps
• Roof-mounted spoiler
• Charging port integrated into the left rear quarter panel

The clean and futuristic styling is expected to distinguish the SUV from the existing Hector.

Premium Cabin with Advanced Features

Inside, the Hector Hawk is expected to offer a modern and technology-focused cabin.

Key expected features include:

• 8.8-inch fully digital instrument cluster
• 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system
• Panoramic sunroof
• Powered and ventilated front seats
• 50W wireless smartphone charger
• Automatic climate control with rear AC vents
• Six-speaker audio system

The SUV is expected to focus on comfort, connectivity and convenience for family buyers.

Safety Equipment

On the safety front, the upcoming SUV is likely to include:

• Six airbags
• Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
• Hill Hold Assist
• Electronic Parking Brake
• Rear-view camera with parking sensors
• Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

These features are expected to strengthen the Hector Hawk’s appeal in the premium SUV segment.

EV and Plug-in Hybrid Powertrains

The all-electric version is expected to be powered by a 69.2kWh battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing 201hp and 310Nm of torque.

According to global specifications, the EV offers a CLTC-certified driving range of up to 530km on a single charge.

Alongside the electric model, MG is also expected to introduce a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant featuring:

  1.5-litre petrol engine
• 20.5kWh battery pack
• Electric motor
• Combined output of 195hp and 230Nm
• Electric-only driving range of around 125km

First SUV on the ADAPT Platform

The Hector Hawk will debut MG’s ADAPT platform in India. The newly developed architecture supports multiple electrified powertrains, including:

• Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs)
• Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)
• Range-Extender EVs
• Strong Hybrid models

This flexible platform is expected to underpin several future MG products in the Indian market.

Expected Rivals

Once launched, the electric MG Hector Hawk is expected to compete with premium electric SUVs such as the Mahindra XEV 9e, while the plug-in hybrid variant could rival models including the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari, depending on final pricing and positioning.

With its combination of modern design, electrified powertrains and advanced features, the MG Hector Hawk is set to become one of the brand’s most significant launches in India this year.
