Mahindra Vision S Spied Again With BE 6 Steering Wheel… Is the ‘Baby Scorpio’ Coming as an EV Too?

The Mahindra Vision S has returned to the spotlight after another camouflaged prototype was spotted testing in India. The latest sighting has offered a clearer look at the compact SUV’s cabin, exterior details and potential features while also raising an interesting question about its powertrain.

Often described as the “Baby Scorpio,” the Vision S was earlier expected to arrive around Mahindra’s annual event on August 15, 2026. That timeline has reportedly shifted, and the production-ready SUV is now expected to enter the Indian market sometime in 2027. However, Mahindra has not officially announced its launch date, engine line-up or pricing.

BE 6 steering wheel sparks EV speculation

The most intriguing detail inside the latest test vehicle is its steering wheel, which appears to have been borrowed from the Mahindra BE 6. This has fuelled speculation that the prototype could be an electric version of the Vision S.

There is another possibility: the steering wheel may simply be a temporary component fitted to a development mule. Test vehicles often use parts from existing models before the final production cabin is ready. A separate spy-shot report also describes it as a makeshift unit, meaning buyers should not assume that the production model will carry the same design.

The cabin itself looks upright and functional, in keeping with the SUV’s rugged personality. A high-set dashboard, vertically positioned AC vents and a large touchscreen can be seen inside the prototype. Reports differ on the precise display arrangement and size, but the design appears to borrow ideas from models such as the Thar Roxx, Scorpio N and BE 6.

Premium features could lift its appeal

The production-spec Vision S is expected to offer a healthy list of comfort and convenience features. These may include a panoramic sunroof, dual-tone cabin, ventilated and heated seats, dual-zone climate control, drive modes, traction control and hill descent control.

Other expected additions include an electronic parking brake, wireless charging pad, engine start-stop button and multiple storage spaces around the centre console.

A visible radar module on the lower section of the front grille has also prompted speculation about ADAS. If offered, features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane assistance or adaptive cruise control could help the Vision S stand out in the crowded compact SUV segment. Final equipment, however, will depend on the variant and remains unconfirmed.

Rugged ‘Baby Scorpio’ styling takes shape

Even under camouflage, the Vision S carries a distinctly boxy silhouette. The upright front end, flat bonnet and squared-off proportions give it the visual character of a traditional Mahindra SUV rather than an urban crossover.

The prototype appears to feature round LED headlamps, potentially surrounded by circular LED DRLs, along with a vertical slat-style grille and rectangular fog-lamp housings. Polygonal wheel arches, large alloy wheels, flush door handles and a flat roof further strengthen its muscular stance.

At the rear, the SUV is expected to receive vertically positioned tail-lamps, a flat rear windscreen and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. That spare wheel, in particular, adds to the “Baby Scorpio” image and separates the Vision S visually from conventional sub-four-metre SUVs.

Petrol, diesel and electric options possible

Mahindra has not disclosed the final powertrain specifications. Reports suggest that the internal-combustion version could be offered with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine.

Possible transmission options include a six-speed manual, six-speed DCT and AMT, although the combinations have yet to be confirmed. Since the Vision S is being developed on Mahindra’s multi-energy NU_IQ platform, petrol, diesel, electric and even hybrid configurations are considered technically possible.

The repeated appearance of prototypes suggests that development is moving forward, but it does not necessarily indicate an immediate launch. According to The Daily Jagran’s report, the SUV is currently expected to arrive in early 2027.

For now, the Vision S appears to be shaping up as a smaller, more city-friendly SUV carrying familiar Scorpio-inspired toughness. If Mahindra manages to combine that road presence with modern technology, multiple powertrains and competitive pricing, the so-called Baby Scorpio could become one of the company’s most closely watched launches of 2027.
