OnePlus 16R India launch tipped for November–December, but its rumoured price may surprise buyers…
OnePlus 16R is tipped to bring a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, a huge 9,000mAh battery, 200MP camera and up to 1TB storage, but reports suggest the India price could climb as high as Rs 75,000.
OnePlus could be preparing to shake up its premium smartphone lineup in India with the upcoming OnePlus 16R. The next-generation R-series handset is reportedly being lined up for an India launch towards the end of 2026, and if the early leaks are accurate, this could be one of the biggest upgrades the series has seen in years.
The smartphone is expected to arrive as a reworked or rebranded version of a device from the OnePlus Ace 7 series. Reports suggest that the OnePlus 16R could make its India debut sometime in November or December 2026, although the company has yet to officially announce either the device or its launch schedule.
OnePlus 16R price could cross Rs 70,000
One detail likely to attract plenty of attention is the expected price.
The OnePlus 16R is reportedly being considered for a price between Rs 70,000 and Rs 75,000 in India. That would represent a substantial jump over the OnePlus 15R, which arrived with a starting price of Rs 59,999.
If the rumoured pricing proves accurate, the 16R would move noticeably deeper into premium flagship territory. However, buyers should not treat these figures as confirmed just yet. OnePlus has not announced the official India price, and pricing plans can change before launch.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and up to 1TB storage tipped
The specifications could help explain that possible price increase.
According to reports, the OnePlus 16R may be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, giving the handset flagship-level processing power.
The smartphone could also be offered with as much as 16GB RAM and 1TB internal storage, making the top-end version particularly attractive to power users and mobile gamers.
Another interesting rumour points to a built-in active cooling fan. If OnePlus adopts such a system, it could help the phone sustain performance during demanding games and other intensive workloads.
185Hz OLED display could target gamers
On the front, the OnePlus 16R is tipped to feature a 6.78-inch flat LTPS OLED display with 1.5K resolution.
More unusually, reports claim the panel could support a refresh rate of up to 185Hz. Such a high refresh rate would place a clear emphasis on fluid animations and gaming, although it remains to be seen whether the final India model will carry the same specification.
200MP camera and periscope zoom expected
OnePlus may also be planning a major camera upgrade for its next R-series handset.

Leaks suggest the OnePlus 16R could feature a 200MP primary rear camera, accompanied by a 50MP periscope telephoto camera offering around 3.5x optical zoom.
For selfies and video calls, the handset is tipped to use a 16MP front-facing camera.
A 200MP main sensor paired with a dedicated periscope camera would mark a significant shift for the R-series, which has traditionally focused more heavily on performance and value than flagship-grade photography.
9,000mAh battery could be its biggest talking point
Perhaps the most eye-catching specification, however, is the rumoured 9,000mAh battery.

The OnePlus 15R launched in India with a 7,400mAh battery, so a move to 9,000mAh would be a sizeable generational increase.
Despite the enormous battery capacity, the upcoming handset is also tipped to support 100W or faster wired charging. If both claims materialise, battery life and charging could become two of the strongest selling points of the OnePlus 16R.
A very different R-series phone?
Software details remain less certain, though reports indicate that the Chinese version could run ColorOS 17 based on Android 17. The India model would typically be expected to use OxygenOS, subject to OnePlus’ final software strategy.
Taken together, the leaked specifications paint an ambitious picture: a flagship-class processor, extremely high-refresh-rate OLED display, 200MP camera, periscope zoom and a gigantic 9,000mAh battery.
But there is one important caveat. OnePlus has not officially confirmed the OnePlus 16R, its specifications, India launch date or price. Until the company makes an announcement, all of these details should be treated as leaks and early reports rather than final specifications.
If the reported Rs 70,000–Rs 75,000 price does turn out to be accurate, OnePlus may also have to convince buyers that the 16R offers enough upgrades to justify such a sizeable jump over its predecessor.
For now, the OnePlus 16R looks increasingly like a smartphone worth watching particularly if that enormous 9,000mAh battery makes it to the final retail model.
