Oppo Reno 16t launched with huge 6,700mAh battery, 200MP camera: But its 120x zoom isn’t the only surprise…

Oppo has expanded its Reno 16 series with the launch of the new Oppo Reno 16t in China. The smartphone joins the existing standard and Pro models, bringing some eye-catching specifications to the company’s increasingly competitive mid-range lineup.

And Oppo has not held back on the numbers.

The Reno 16t combines a massive 6,700mAh battery with 80W fast charging, while its rear camera system is headlined by a whopping 200-megapixel primary sensor. Buyers also get a dedicated 50MP telephoto camera, up to 16GB RAM and as much as 512GB storage.

The phone is already on sale in China, although Oppo has yet to announce details about its availability in India and other global markets.

Oppo Reno 16t price and variants

The Oppo Reno 16t starts at CNY 3,699, which converts to roughly ₹53,000, for the base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Customers looking for the highest configuration can opt for the 16GB RAM + 512GB storage variant, priced at CNY 4,499, or approximately ₹64,000 on direct conversion.

These converted figures should not be considered indicative of an eventual Indian retail price, as taxes and Oppo’s regional pricing strategy could result in different pricing if the device launches in India.

The smartphone is available through Oppo’s China online store in three finishes: Galaxy Purple, Heartbeat, and a third colour translated from Chinese as The Moonlit Night is Dark.

200MP camera leads a seriously ambitious setup

The cameras are easily among the biggest talking points of the Reno 16t.

Oppo has equipped the smartphone with a triple rear-camera setup led by a 200MP primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilisation (OIS).

It is joined by a 50MP ultra-wide camera with a 116-degree field of view and a 50MP telephoto camera capable of 3.5x optical zoom.

The telephoto system also offers up to 120x digital zoom, although digital magnification at such extreme levels should not be confused with optical zoom.

For selfies and video calls, Oppo has included another 50MP camera on the front, complete with autofocus.

The Reno 16t can record video at up to 4K resolution at 60fps.

6.32-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate

Despite packing a particularly large battery, the Reno 16t comes with a relatively compact 6.32-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,216 x 2,640 pixels.

The panel supports up to a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, 100 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and up to 1,800 nits peak brightness.

Oppo also claims a 93.4 percent screen-to-body ratio, while the display has a pixel density of around 460ppi and supports 1.07 billion colours.

Dimensity 8550 Super sits under the hood

Powering the new smartphone is an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 8550 Super chipset with a claimed peak clock speed of 3.4GHz.

The processor is paired with an ARM G720 MC8 GPU.

Depending on the configuration, buyers can get up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The entry-level version uses 12GB LPDDR5 RAM instead.

On the software side, the Reno 16t ships with ColorOS 16 based on Android 16.

Security options include an optical in-display fingerprint sensor and face unlock.

6,700mAh battery could be another major selling point

While the 200MP camera grabs attention, the 6,700mAh battery could prove equally important for everyday users.

Oppo pairs the large battery with 80W wired fast charging, potentially reducing one of the biggest drawbacks normally associated with high-capacity smartphone batteries — lengthy charging times.

What’s also notable is the phone’s size. Oppo lists the Reno 16t at approximately 151.21 x 72.42 x 8.36mm, with a weight of around 191 grams.

That means Oppo has managed to accommodate the 6,700mAh battery without pushing the phone beyond the 200g mark.

IP69K protection is another surprise

Durability is another area where the Oppo Reno 16t appears unusually well-equipped.

Oppo claims IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance.

Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth and USB Type-C. Navigation support covers GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS and India’s NavIC system.

The device also includes an IR blaster, gyroscope, accelerometer, e-compass, proximity sensor, ambient-light sensor and colour-temperature sensor.

Will Oppo Reno 16t launch in India?

For now, Oppo has announced the Reno 16t only for China, and there is no confirmed India launch date or official Indian price.

That will be worth watching because the combination of a 200MP OIS camera, 50MP telephoto lens, 6,700mAh battery, 80W charging and Dimensity 8550 Super processor gives the phone an interesting specification sheet.

If Oppo eventually brings the device to India, however, its final pricing could be crucial. The premium mid-range smartphone segment is already fiercely competitive, and a direct conversion of its Chinese starting price puts the Reno 16t at roughly ₹53,000.

For now, the Oppo Reno 16t is a China-only launch but with specifications like these, it is unlikely to go unnoticed elsewhere.
