iPhone 17 Pro Max for ₹71,990? The Deal Looks Massive, But There’s a ₹55,000 Catch You Should Know
The iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB, listed at ₹1,49,900, can reportedly reach an effective price of ₹71,990 at Reliance Digital when multiple benefits are combined. But the headline figure depends heavily on the value of the smartphone you exchange.
Seeing an iPhone 17 Pro Max priced at ₹71,990 is enough to make almost any Apple fan stop scrolling.
After all, the 256GB model carries a listed price of ₹1,49,900 in India. A drop to ₹71,990 would appear to put Apple’s flagship at less than half that figure.
There is, however, an important detail hidden behind that eye-catching number.
The ₹71,990 figure is an effective price, calculated after combining an in-store discount, the maximum old-device exchange value, an additional exchange bonus and eligible bank cashback.
So, before taking that ₹71,990 figure at face value, here’s how the deal actually works.
First discount brings the price to ₹1,39,990
According to the offer details, Reliance Digital is providing an in-store discount of ₹9,910 on the iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB.
That takes the price from:
₹1,49,900 → ₹1,39,990
That’s the straightforward part of the offer.
To get anywhere close to ₹71,990, however, buyers need to unlock the much bigger exchange benefits.
Here’s where the ₹55,000 catch comes in
Customers can reportedly receive an exchange value of up to ₹55,000 for an eligible old smartphone.
The words “up to” matter.
A ₹55,000 exchange value is not guaranteed for every old phone. The amount offered will depend on factors such as the smartphone model and its physical condition.
Reports describing the offer have used an iPhone 15 Pro as an example for reaching the maximum ₹55,000 exchange valuation.
Someone exchanging an older iPhone or another smartphone could therefore receive considerably less, pushing the effective price of the new iPhone 17 Pro Max higher.
There’s another ₹10,000 exchange bonus
On top of the regular exchange value, the offer includes an additional ₹10,000 exchange bonus, subject to applicable terms.
If a buyer qualifies for the maximum ₹55,000 exchange value as well as the ₹10,000 bonus, the combined exchange-related benefit reaches:
₹65,000
That’s the biggest reason the effective price appears so dramatically lower than the listed MRP.
Bank cashback takes the total benefit even further
An additional ₹3,000 bank cashback is also part of the maximum-benefit calculation.

Again, customers should check the eligible cards, payment method and other applicable conditions before assuming the cashback will automatically apply.
When every maximum benefit is combined, the calculation looks like this:
₹1,49,900 MRP
– ₹9,910 in-store discount
– ₹55,000 maximum exchange value
– ₹10,000 exchange bonus
– ₹3,000 bank cashback
= ₹71,990 effective price
The total maximum benefit, therefore, works out to an impressive ₹77,910.
So, can you actually buy it for ₹71,990?
Potentially but only if you qualify for all the maximum benefits included in that calculation.
This is the most important part of the deal.

The ₹71,990 price should not be confused with a flat discounted retail price available to every customer.
For example, if your old smartphone is valued at ₹30,000 rather than ₹55,000, you immediately lose ₹25,000 of the maximum advertised benefit.
Similarly, if your payment method doesn’t qualify for the ₹3,000 cashback or the exchange bonus isn’t applicable to your transaction, the final effective price rises further.
Check these details before exchanging your phone
Anyone considering the offer should first get the exact exchange valuation of their existing smartphone.
It is also worth confirming whether the ₹10,000 additional exchange bonus applies to the device being traded in and whether the selected bank card qualifies for the ₹3,000 cashback.
More importantly, compare the final amount payable rather than making a buying decision based purely on the headline effective price.
A huge iPhone discount for the right buyer
On paper, taking an iPhone 17 Pro Max from ₹1,49,900 to an effective ₹71,990 is a massive reduction.
And for someone already owning a high-value smartphone that qualifies for the maximum exchange valuation, the combination of offers could make Apple’s flagship considerably more affordable.
But there’s a big difference between “₹71,990” and “starting at ₹71,990 after maximum benefits.”
That distinction is what shoppers need to remember.
The offer can potentially deliver a total benefit of ₹77,910, but your actual deal will ultimately depend on one thing the headline cannot tell you: how much your old phone is really worth.
