Kia India has officially kicked off the countdown for the launch of its much-awaited Sorento Hybrid, giving Indian buyers their first glimpse of the premium three-row SUV while opening pre-bookings across the country.

The upcoming Kia Sorento will become the company’s first hybrid SUV in India, marking an important milestone in Kia’s strategy to expand its electrified vehicle portfolio in one of the world’s fastest-growing automobile markets.

Customers can now reserve the SUV through Kia dealerships as well as the company’s official website, with the official launch expected in the coming weeks.

A Premium SUV Designed for Families

Positioned above the Kia Seltos, the Sorento is expected to cater to buyers looking for a spacious three-row SUV that combines premium styling, advanced technology and improved fuel efficiency.

At nearly 4.8 metres in length, the SUV promises generous cabin space, making it suitable for large families and long-distance travel.

The teaser released by Kia highlights the Sorento’s bold design language, featuring an upright stance, muscular proportions and a distinctive shoulder line that gives the SUV a commanding road presence.

The front fascia is expected to stand out with a striking two-tier LED lighting setup connected by an illuminated graphic, adding a modern and premium touch to the vehicle’s appearance.

Kia’s Global Bestseller Arrives in India

The Sorento has built a strong reputation in international markets since its global debut in 2002.

Now in its fourth generation, the SUV has sold more than 4.8 million units across 132 countries, making it one of Kia’s most successful global models.

The vehicle has also received several prestigious international recognitions, including the IIHS Top Safety Pick+, a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and Car and Driver Editors’ Choice honours.

Its arrival in India reflects Kia’s growing focus on bringing globally successful products to domestic customers.

Hybrid Powertrain Expected

While Kia has not officially revealed the specifications of the India-bound Sorento, it has confirmed that the SUV will feature a hybrid powertrain, making it the brand’s first electrified SUV for the Indian market.

Internationally, the Sorento Hybrid is powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, with all-wheel-drive offered in select markets.

However, industry experts expect the India-spec model to receive a market-specific setup, possibly featuring a hybridised 1.5-litre petrol engine similar to the technology expected in the upcoming next-generation Seltos Hybrid.

Kia has not yet confirmed the final engine specifications.

Expected Price and Rivals

The Sorento Hybrid is expected to be priced between ₹30 lakh and ₹35 lakh (ex-showroom).

Once launched, it is likely to compete with premium three-row SUVs such as the Jeep Meridian and Škoda Kodiaq, while also attracting buyers interested in fuel-efficient hybrid alternatives.

With hybrid vehicles steadily gaining popularity in India, the Sorento could help Kia strengthen its position in the premium SUV segment by offering a combination of practicality, efficiency and modern technology.
