Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler has been revealed as a new lifestyle pickup, combining Scorpio-inspired SUV styling with a double-cab body and practical cargo bed.

Mahindra & Mahindra has officially revealed the Scorpio Lifestyler, a new double-cab lifestyle pickup that could bring a very different kind of utility vehicle to Indian buyers.

Revealed during Mahindra‘s Independence Day showcase, the new pickup is scheduled to reach Indian showrooms by April 2027. The company has also confirmed that its starting price will be below Rs 19.79 lakh (ex-showroom), although the complete price range will be announced closer to launch.

The new pickup will take on established lifestyle trucks such as the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, but Mahindra is approaching the segment with a different philosophy.

Instead of building a traditional workhorse and adding comfort features later, the company says it has essentially asked a different question: What would happen if an SUV were designed as a pickup from the beginning?

That idea is at the heart of the Scorpio Lifestyler.

“Scorpio Is a Family of Products Now”

The decision to use the Scorpio name is not accidental.

Speaking to NDTV Auto, Pratap Bose, Executive Vice President and Chief Design Officer at Mahindra, explained that the company sees Scorpio as a growing family rather than a single model.

The family already includes the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N, and the Lifestyler now adds a lifestyle pickup to that portfolio.

Bose’s description of the brand is straightforward: it is commanding, confidence-inspiring and unmistakably Scorpio.

That gives Mahindra a major advantage. The company does not have to introduce an entirely unfamiliar badge to Indian buyers; instead, it can build the pickup around one of its best-known SUV names.

Mahindra Wants to Make Pickups About Lifestyle, Not Just Work

For decades, pickup trucks in India have largely been associated with commercial transportation.

Mahindra wants to change that perception.

The Scorpio Lifestyler has been developed for people who might want to carry bicycles, surfboards, camping equipment, motorcycles or outdoor gear, while still having the comfort and road manners expected from a modern SUV.

Bose said Mahindra is engineering the vehicle to support a wide range of factory-developed accessories. The company has even tested motorcycles in the cargo bed during development.

That detail says a lot about where Mahindra sees the opportunity.

The buyer is not necessarily a business owner looking for a commercial load carrier. It could be someone who wants a vehicle for weekend trips, adventure sports, road trips or simply a more versatile family vehicle.

Three Special Editions Show Mahindra’s Ambition

At the reveal, Mahindra showcased three lifestyle-themed versions of the pickup:

  • Reef Edition
  • Trail Edition
  • Valley Edition

Each one has a distinct visual personality.

The Reef Edition takes inspiration from surfing, coastal environments and retro design. The Trail Edition has a more rugged, desert-inspired character, while the Valley Edition uses a calmer, nature-oriented theme.

The message is clear: Mahindra does not want owners to see the Scorpio Lifestyler simply as a truck.

It wants the vehicle to become part of an owner’s lifestyle.

Design: Scorpio DNA Meets American-Style Pickup Proportions

Despite its Scorpio badge, the Lifestyler has a clearly different silhouette from the Scorpio N SUV.

The pickup gets a large gloss-black grille, high-mounted headlamps with DRLs, vertically oriented fog-lamp housings and a rugged bullbar-inspired front bumper.

The side profile features a double-cab layout, chunky cladding, roof rails and large 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 255/65 R18 tyres. At the rear, vertically stacked LED tail-lamps and a large Mahindra wordmark give the pickup a distinctive appearance.

The vehicle also gets rear disc brakes, something Mahindra is highlighting as an advantage over the Toyota Hilux.

The design philosophy, however, goes deeper than simply adding a cargo bed to an SUV.

Bose described the central design question as essentially asking how an SUV would look if it were transformed into a pickup.

That explains why the Lifestyler appears more lifestyle-oriented than conventional commercial pickups.

The Vertical Touchscreen Is a Deliberate Choice

Inside the cabin, one of the most noticeable differences is the portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen.

At a time when several new Mahindra electric SUVs are moving towards wide screens and multiple-display layouts, the Lifestyler takes a different route.

Bose explained that the screen orientation was chosen around the expected use case of the vehicle. A pickup owner might spend significant time using navigation while travelling to activities or remote destinations, making a portrait layout useful for displaying maps and information.

The cabin itself aims to retain the comfort levels associated with a premium SUV.

Expected equipment includes a digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, powered and ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone connectivity and connected-car features. Mahindra has not yet released the complete production-specification list, so some equipment remains subject to final confirmation.

Familiar Mahindra Engines Could Power the Pickup

Mahindra has not yet confirmed the final powertrain specifications for the production Lifestyler.

However, current reports indicate that the pickup is expected to share its mechanical package with the Scorpio N.

That could mean the familiar 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines, with the Scorpio N’s diesel producing around 175hp and the petrol developing around 203hp. Six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are also expected.

A four-wheel-drive system is also expected, which would be crucial for the Lifestyler’s positioning as a genuine adventure-oriented pickup.

Potential terrain-focused hardware and drive modes could make it considerably more capable away from paved roads than a conventional lifestyle pickup.

Toyota Hilux Rival With a Lower Starting Price?

This is perhaps the most interesting part of Mahindra’s strategy.

The Toyota Hilux has helped establish the lifestyle pickup segment in India, but its pricing puts it firmly into premium territory.

Mahindra is promising something different.

The Scorpio Lifestyler will start at less than Rs 19.79 lakh ex-showroom, although the company has not revealed the exact starting figure or the price of higher variants.

If Mahindra manages to maintain a meaningful price advantage while offering comparable four-wheel-drive capability, modern equipment and strong engine performance, the Lifestyler could make the lifestyle pickup category considerably more accessible.

The other major rival will be the Isuzu V-Cross, which has traditionally appealed to buyers looking for a rugged pickup with genuine off-road ability.

Safety and Technology Could Give It Another Edge

The production specification has not been fully revealed, so buyers should treat several technology features as expectations rather than confirmed equipment.

However, the Lifestyler is expected to receive a substantial safety and technology package, potentially including Level 2 ADAS, multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, tyre-pressure monitoring and hill-control functions.

If Mahindra brings a comprehensive electronics package to production, the Scorpio Lifestyler could become one of the most feature-rich pickups available in India.

Launch by April 2027

Mahindra has confirmed that the Scorpio Lifestyler will launch in India by April 2027. The company has not yet announced the exact launch date or opened bookings.

The vehicle’s starting price is confirmed to be below Rs 19.79 lakh, but the final variant-wise pricing will be revealed closer to launch.

For Mahindra, the Lifestyler is a significant gamble — but potentially a smart one.

India’s pickup market has historically been driven by commercial requirements. The Scorpio Lifestyler is trying to persuade buyers that a pickup can also be about weekend adventures, road trips, outdoor hobbies and personal expression.

And if Mahindra can successfully combine the Scorpio’s familiar SUV character with the practicality of a proper cargo bed, it could do something few pickups have managed in India so far: make the lifestyle pickup feel like a mainstream choice.

For now, one line from Pratap Bose perhaps sums up Mahindra’s entire approach best: “If an SUV were a pickup, how would we look at that?”

The answer will arrive in showrooms by April 2027.
