Triumph Speed 400 gets costlier Again! second price hike pushes entry-Level roadster to ₹2.40 Lakh
Just months after its launch, the Triumph Speed 400 has received another price increase, taking the total hike to ₹6,000 despite its downsized 349cc engine aimed at reducing costs.
Triumph Motorcycles has once again increased the price of its Speed 400, marking the second price revision since the motorcycle’s launch in April 2026. With the latest hike, the popular neo-retro roadster now carries an ex-showroom price of ₹2.40 lakh, making it ₹6,000 more expensive than before.
The latest revision comes shortly after the company implemented an earlier ₹2,000 price increase in May 2026, signalling rising production costs across the motorcycle industry.
Second Price Hike in a Few Months
The Triumph Speed 400 was introduced with a newly developed 349cc engine, replacing the earlier 400cc unit.
The downsized engine was designed to place the motorcycle in India’s 18 per cent GST bracket, applicable to motorcycles below 350cc, instead of the higher 40 per cent tax bracket applicable to larger-capacity models.
However, despite the expected tax benefits, customers are now paying more for the motorcycle.

Industry observers believe that increasing raw material prices, manufacturing expenses, and supply chain costs have offset much of the financial advantage expected from the smaller engine.
Interestingly, after the latest revision, the new 349cc Speed 400 is now priced close to or even slightly above in some markets the outgoing 400cc version, raising questions among buyers about the value proposition.
Engine and Performance
Powering the updated Speed 400 is a 349cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces:

36.4 bhp at 8,000 rpm- 32 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm
Compared to the previous 400cc engine, the new motor develops 3 bhp less power and 5.5 Nm lower torque, while continuing to offer smooth performance for city commuting and highway touring.
Features and Hardware
Mechanically, the motorcycle retains its premium hardware package.
Key highlights include:
- Upside-Down (USD) front forks
- Rear monoshock suspension
- 17-inch alloy wheels
- 300 mm front disc brake
- 230 mm rear disc brake
- Dual-channel ABS as standard
The motorcycle also features a 13-litre fuel tank and has a kerb weight of 179 kg, maintaining its balance between everyday usability and spirited riding.
Should Buyers Be Concerned?
While the Triumph Speed 400 continues to offer premium styling, refined performance and quality components, repeated price hikes in a short span may influence buying decisions, especially in the highly competitive 300cc–400cc motorcycle segment.
Despite the increased pricing, the motorcycle remains one of Triumph’s most accessible offerings in India and continues to compete against several established premium roadsters in the market.
