Honda Cars India Sales Rise 13% in June 2026, Exports Jump 600% YoY
Honda Cars India reports steady domestic growth and a massive export surge in June 2026, led by Amaze, City and Elevate

Japanese automaker Honda Cars India appears to be quietly rebuilding momentum in the Indian market, reporting a 13.53% year-on-year rise in domestic sales for June 2026. The company sold 5,243 units locally during the month, compared to 4,618 units in the same period last year.

While the numbers may seem modest at first glance, the broader picture tells a more interesting story — one driven by strong exports and a stable domestic portfolio anchored by trusted nameplates like Amaze, City, and Elevate.

Steady domestic demand keeps Honda afloat

Honda’s monthly growth was not explosive, but consistent. On a month-on-month basis, domestic sales rose from 5,111 units in May to 5,243 units in June — a 2.58% uptick, reflecting stable showroom demand rather than sudden spikes.

The company’s domestic performance continues to rely heavily on three core models:

  • Honda Amaze, the compact sedan that remains a key volume driver
  • Honda City, still one of India’s most recognised mid-size sedans
  • Honda Elevate, the brand’s SUV offering that has helped it stay relevant in India’s SUV-dominated market

Among them, the City — recently refreshed with updated styling and features — continues to appeal to traditional sedan buyers who still prefer comfort over the SUV trend.

Export surge becomes the real headline

If domestic numbers tell a steady story, exports tell a dramatic one.

Honda recorded a staggering 600% jump in exports, shipping 3,545 units in June 2026 compared to just 506 units in the same month last year. This sharp rise played a major role in pushing the company’s total sales to 8,788 units, marking a strong 71.51% year-on-year growth.

Overall quarterly performance (April–June 2026) also reflects this upward trend, with total sales reaching 21,579 units, up 35.04% from last year.

A portfolio trying to find its second wind

Honda’s India strategy has largely centred on a compact but focused lineup. While competitors aggressively expand SUV portfolios, Honda has taken a more conservative approach, relying on proven models rather than rapid launches.

The Elevate SUV, in particular, has become an important pillar in its India strategy. Its straightforward design and comfortable ride quality have helped it carve out a niche in a crowded midsize SUV space.

What’s next: hybrid push with ZR-V

Honda is now preparing to strengthen its lineup with the upcoming Honda ZR-V Hybrid, expected to be launched soon in India. The SUV will feature the company’s e:HEV strong hybrid system, combining a 2.0-litre petrol engine with dual electric motors producing 181 hp and 315 Nm torque.

The model is expected to offer multiple drive modes — Normal, Sport, Eco, and Snow — and a 0–100 km/h sprint time of 7.8 seconds, signalling Honda’s intent to re-enter the performance-hybrid segment in India.

The bigger picture

While Honda’s domestic numbers show gradual recovery rather than explosive growth, its export performance has added a fresh layer of strength to its global strategy.

The coming months will be crucial. With hybrid expansion on the horizon and SUVs continuing to dominate Indian roads, Honda’s challenge is clear — turn stability into momentum before the competition pulls further ahead.
