‘Do You Feel Any Shame?’: Arvind Kejriwal Targets BJP After Viral ‘Lord Hanuman’ Rally Video Sparks Political Storm

New Delhi: A fresh political controversy has erupted after a viral video allegedly showed a person dressed as Lord Hanuman dancing and waving a BJP flag during a public rally addressed by the party’s national president Nitin Nabin. The incident has triggered a sharp exchange between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the use of religious symbolism in political events.

AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal launched a fierce attack on the BJP on Monday, accusing the ruling party of disrespecting Hindu beliefs and exploiting religious icons for political purposes.

In a strongly-worded post on social media platform X, Kejriwal said the BJP had caused immense damage to Hinduism and demanded an apology from the party. Referring to the viral video, he questioned the BJP’s actions and asked whether its leaders felt any shame over the incident.

The former Delhi Chief Minister alleged that the BJP had harmed Hindu values more than any external force in India’s long history and claimed that the party had betrayed the faith of ordinary Hindus.

The controversy comes just a day after BJP president Nitin Nabin had criticised Opposition leaders, including Kejriwal, accusing them of remaining silent whenever Hindu deities were allegedly insulted.

Joining the criticism, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh said the video reflected the BJP’s attempt to mix politics with religion in an inappropriate manner. He objected to portraying Lord Hanuman, also revered as Bajrang Bali, as a political flag-bearer at a party event.

Singh alleged that if such practices continued, the BJP would replace traditional Hindu values with what he described as a “BJP religion.” He further claimed that the party was attempting to elevate its political leadership above religious traditions, a move he said could hurt the sentiments of devotees.

The controversy gained momentum after the video spread widely across social media platforms, with users expressing mixed reactions. While Opposition leaders condemned the visuals, BJP leaders had not immediately issued an official response regarding the allegations at the time of publishing.

The latest episode has intensified the political battle between the BJP and AAP, with both parties accusing each other of politicising religion. As the debate continues online and in political circles, the viral video has once again brought the issue of religious imagery in election campaigning into the national spotlight.
