Chris Evans Says ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Felt Like 2011 Again: ‘I Was Watching Robert Downey Jr. and Forgot I Had a Line’

Los Angeles: Marvel fans have another reason to celebrate as Chris Evans returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Avengers: Doomsday, marking his first official appearance since Avengers: Endgame in 2019. The highly anticipated film also features Robert Downey Jr. in an unexpected new role as the iconic Marvel villain Doctor Doom.
Speaking about his return, Evans admitted that stepping back onto the Marvel set brought back memories of the early days of the MCU, especially the filming of the first The Avengers in 2011.
Chris Evans Recalls the Early Marvel Days
In a recent interview, Chris Evans described the experience of filming Avengers: Doomsday as surprisingly nostalgic.“It was almost like going back to 2011 on the first Avengers, because at the beginning of that, you’re kind of the new kid on the block and you’re excited to even be there.”
The actor revealed that the atmosphere on set reminded him of the excitement he felt more than a decade ago when the original Avengers assembled for the first time.
Evans also shared a light-hearted memory from the early days of the franchise, recalling how he would sometimes become so engrossed watching Robert Downey Jr. perform as Tony Stark that he almost forgot he was part of the scene.“I would find myself during that movie watching… ‘Robert Downey Jr. is playing Tony Stark! … I have a line.'”
Robert Downey Jr. on Becoming Doctor Doom
While Evans returns as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. is set to surprise audiences by portraying Doctor Doom, one of Marvel’s most powerful and complex villains.
Reflecting on the role, Downey explained that although Tony Stark and Victor Von Doom are both brilliant minds, their personalities are shaped by completely different experiences.

According to the actor, Tony Stark’s personal struggles ultimately transformed him into a hero, whereas Doctor Doom’s journey takes him down a far darker path. He suggested that the villain’s immense power and complexity make him a threat capable of challenging the entire Avengers team.
What to Expect from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Although Marvel Studios has kept most plot details under wraps, the film is expected to reunite several of the franchise’s biggest heroes.
Alongside Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., the cast includes:
