Ram Temple Donation Controversy Sparks Fresh Political Showdown

The controversy surrounding the alleged irregularities in Ram Temple donations has escalated into a major political flashpoint, with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal launching a nationwide signature campaign demanding strict action against those found responsible.

The campaign comes amid growing pressure from Opposition parties seeking greater transparency in the functioning of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, while the trust has maintained that its administration remains independent of government control.

Speaking in Ayodhya on Sunday, Ram Temple Construction Committee Chairman Nripendra Mishra firmly stated that there would be “no government interference” in the functioning of the temple trust or its upcoming Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Kejriwal Begins Signature Campaign

Launching the campaign in Rohini, Delhi, after participating in a Sundarkand recitation, Arvind Kejriwal appealed to citizens across the country to sign a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding strict punishment for those allegedly involved in the donation controversy.

Kejriwal accused authorities of protecting influential individuals and alleged that accountability was being deliberately delayed. He said the campaign would continue until justice is delivered and those responsible face the harshest possible legal consequences.

The AAP’s initiative follows similar criticism from the Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT), both of which have questioned the handling of the allegations.

Nripendra Mishra Clarifies Trust’s Independence

Responding to the growing political debate, Nripendra Mishra reiterated that the Ram Temple Trust operates independently and that the government has no role in its internal functioning.

He also confirmed that the trust is in the process of appointing its first Chief Executive Officer, whose responsibilities will include overseeing financial management and administrative affairs.

According to Mishra, a three-member committee has already been constituted to recommend suitable candidates for the CEO position. The new appointment is expected to strengthen administrative oversight while ensuring that operational decisions remain with the trust itself.

RSS Expresses Concern, Supports Investigation

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) also addressed the issue during a meeting of its senior functionaries in Belagavi, Karnataka.

While expressing concern over the alleged irregularities in donation counting, the RSS voiced confidence in the ongoing Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe and police investigation.

The organisation urged the temple trust to take all necessary precautions to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future, emphasising that the faith of millions of devotees should never be compromised.

Congress Demands Independent Probe

The Congress has intensified its campaign over the controversy by holding press conferences across the country and demanding an independent investigation monitored by the Supreme Court.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh questioned what he described as the government’s silence over the allegations and renewed the party’s demand for a forensic audit of the temple’s financial records.

According to the Congress, accountability and transparency are essential in maintaining public trust, particularly in institutions that receive donations from millions of devotees.

The party has also announced plans to raise the issue during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, where it intends to seek answers from the central government.

BJP Hits Back at Opposition

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dismissed the allegations made by AAP and the Congress, accusing Arvind Kejriwal of practising selective politics.

BJP leaders criticised Kejriwal as a “chunavi Hindu”, alleging that he invokes religious issues only during politically significant periods.

The party maintained that investigative agencies are already examining the matter and urged Opposition leaders not to politicise the issue before the investigation reaches its conclusion.

Trust Announces Administrative Restructuring

Amid the controversy, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust recently announced an administrative restructuring that includes the creation of the CEO’s position.

The move is being viewed as an effort to strengthen financial oversight and improve institutional governance as the temple continues to receive significant public donations from devotees across India and abroad.

As political parties prepare to confront each other during Parliament’s Monsoon Session, the Ram Temple donation issue is expected to remain at the centre of national political debate.
