Rajpal Yadav Faces Fresh Legal Setback as Delhi High Court Upholds Conviction

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has once again found himself in legal trouble after the Delhi High Court upheld his conviction in a long-running loan repayment dispute involving Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd. The court dismissed all petitions filed by the actor and ordered him to undergo three months of imprisonment, marking another major development in the high-profile financial case.

The ruling comes after the court observed that Yadav had repeatedly failed to honour the commitments and assurances he had made regarding repayment of the outstanding dues.

Court Rejects Plea for Probation

According to the advocate representing Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd., the High Court dismissed all 21 petitions filed by Rajpal Yadav and upheld the earlier order passed by the Sessions Court.

Besides the three-month prison sentence, the actor has been directed to pay a fine of ₹1.05 crore in each case. The imprisonment will run concurrently, meaning he will serve a single three-month term instead of separate sentences for each case.

The court also imposed penalties on Radha Rajpal Yadav, who was named as one of the accused in the matter. She has been ordered to pay a ₹5 lakh fine in each case.

During the hearing, Yadav’s legal team requested probation instead of imprisonment. However, the High Court declined the request, stating that the circumstances of the case did not justify such relief.

‘Ready to Go to Jail Five Times But…’ Remark Draws Court’s Attention

One of the significant observations made during the proceedings was the court’s reference to a statement reportedly made by Rajpal Yadav, in which he allegedly said he was “ready to go to jail five times but won’t pay a penny.”

The High Court considered this remark while evaluating the actor’s conduct, noting that repeated violations of earlier assurances had weakened his case.

Despite the conviction, the court has granted Yadav two months to either comply with the order or approach the Supreme Court if he wishes to challenge the verdict.

A Legal Battle That Has Continued for Years

This is not the first time the actor has faced imprisonment in connection with the same financial dispute.

Back in 2018, the Delhi High Court sentenced Rajpal Yadav to three months in civil prison after he failed to repay the original ₹5 crore principal loan linked to the case.

More recently, in February 2026, Yadav surrendered before Tihar Jail after the High Court rejected his request for additional time to settle the outstanding amount.

Before entering prison, the actor appeared emotional while addressing the media. Folding his hands, he admitted that he was facing severe financial hardship and claimed he had no money left to clear the dues.

Industry Voices Support the Actor

Following his imprisonment earlier this year, several personalities from the Hindi film industry expressed concern over Rajpal Yadav’s situation.

Actor Sonu Sood publicly appealed to filmmakers and producers to offer Yadav acting opportunities, saying that providing him work would help restore his financial stability and dignity rather than being viewed as charity.

Rajpal Yadav remains one of Bollywood’s most recognised comic actors, and the latest court order has once again placed his personal and financial struggles in the public spotlight.

What Happens Next?

With the High Court upholding the conviction, Rajpal Yadav now has a limited window to either comply with the court’s directions or seek relief from the Supreme Court of India. The outcome of any further legal challenge will determine whether the actor can avoid serving the prison sentence or if the latest order will be enforced.

The case serves as another reminder of the legal consequences of failing to comply with court-directed financial obligations, regardless of public stature or professional success.
