Wedding Journey Turns Into Heartbreak: Last ‘Carfie’ of Five Young Engineering Graduates Becomes a Family’s Final Memory
A joyful road trip from Bengaluru to Kannur for a family wedding ended in an unimaginable tragedy after a late-night crash claimed four young lives, leaving one friend critically injured and several families shattered.
Wedding Celebration Ends in Tragic Road Accident
What began as a journey filled with excitement, laughter, and plans for a family wedding ended in one of the most heartbreaking road accidents in Kannur, Kerala.
Five young engineering graduates, all close friends who had recently completed their studies, were travelling from Bengaluru to attend the wedding of their friend’s cousin. The group had been looking forward to spending the weekend together, celebrating an important family occasion after months of academic pressure.
However, just a short distance from their destination, tragedy struck.
Four Young Lives Lost
The accident occurred late on Friday night near Koodali, Mattannur, around 20 kilometres away from Kannur town. According to police, the car reportedly lost control before crashing into a roadside tree with tremendous force.
The victims who lost their lives have been identified as:
- Shaan Siraj (21) from Kannur
- Mohammed Rizwan (21) from Kanhangad
- Param Chhetri (21) from New Delhi
- Harsh Sathuri (21) from Hyderabad
Their close friend, Aditya Krishnan from Thrissur, survived the crash but remains in critical condition while undergoing treatment.
A Friendship Built During Engineering Days
The five friends studied together at the VSM Institute of Aerospace Engineering and Technology in Yelahanka, Bengaluru. Having completed their engineering course only two months ago, they had just begun building their professional careers.
Among them, Shaan Siraj had recently secured a job with an engineering company in Bengaluru, while his friends were actively searching for employment opportunities. Despite moving into different phases of life, their friendship remained strong, making the wedding trip a special reunion.
The Last Selfie That Now Holds Countless Memories
Before beginning their drive from Bengaluru on Friday evening, the friends clicked a cheerful group selfie inside the car and shared it with family members waiting in Kannur.
Nobody imagined that the smiling photograph would become the last memory their loved ones would ever receive.
Relatives had been eagerly waiting to welcome the youngsters to the wedding celebrations when heartbreaking news of the accident reached the family around midnight, turning an atmosphere of celebration into one of grief.
Crash Was So Severe That Rescue Teams Had to Cut Open the Car
Emergency responders described the accident as devastating.
According to rescue personnel, the impact completely crushed the vehicle, making it nearly impossible to remove the occupants without specialised equipment. Rescue teams had to cut through the mangled car to recover the victims.

Personal belongings and neatly packed wedding clothes were found scattered throughout the wreckage, serving as painful reminders of a journey that was never completed.
Police Suspect Driver Fatigue
Initial findings from the Mattannur Police suggest that driver fatigue may have contributed to the accident.

Officials believe the driver might have briefly fallen asleep behind the wheel, causing the vehicle to leave the road before crashing into the tree. Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the exact sequence of events.
Families Across India United in Grief
The tragedy has left families in Kerala, New Delhi, and Hyderabad mourning the sudden loss of promising young lives.
Shaan Siraj is survived by his parents and elder sister. Mohammed Rizwan leaves behind his parents, siblings, and extended family, while the families of Param Chhetri and Harsh Sathuri travelled from their respective cities to Kannur following the accident.
Meanwhile, prayers continue for Aditya Krishnan, whose condition remains critical.
A Reminder About Road Safety
The heartbreaking incident has once again highlighted the dangers of long-distance overnight driving, particularly when fatigue sets in. Experts continue to advise motorists to take regular breaks, avoid driving while sleepy, and share driving responsibilities whenever possible.
What was meant to be a joyful reunion for five lifelong friends has instead become a story of unimaginable loss, leaving behind memories that their families will cherish forever—and a final photograph that now carries immeasurable emotional value.
