Elon Musk’s X Makes Government Censorship Requests Public… India Responds: “Follow the Law of the Land”

Elon Musk-owned X has introduced a new system that aims to make government requests for content removal and account restrictions more visible to users. On Saturday, Musk announced the introduction of a new algorithm on X, claiming that users would now be able to clearly see when governments require the platform to take down content.

Asked about the new rules, a government official said on Monday that X would have to comply with Indian law.

“X will have to follow the law of the land,” the official said when asked about the platform’s latest policy.

The response makes India’s position clear: regardless of how X chooses to display or disclose government requests, the platform remains subject to the laws and regulations applicable in India.
