Egg Attack on Mahua Moitra Sparks Row, Akhilesh Yadav Slams BJP Over ‘Political Violence’
Samajwadi Party chief urges Speaker and judiciary to act, calls incident “highly condemnable”
A fresh political controversy has erupted after Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra was allegedly targeted during a protest in West Bengal’s Nadia district. The incident, where eggs were reportedly hurled at her by BJP workers, has drawn sharp reactions from opposition leaders across the country.
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday strongly condemned the alleged attack, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of fostering an environment of political hostility. Reacting to the development, he described the incident as “highly condemnable” and urged both the judiciary and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha to take immediate cognisance.
According to reports, the protest took place during Moitra’s visit to Nadia, where BJP workers allegedly raised slogans and threw eggs at her. The Trinamool Congress leader later claimed that the demonstration was politically motivated and aimed at intimidation.
In a post on X, Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the BJP was misusing its power in states where it holds authority and, “especially in West Bengal, creating a poisonous atmosphere of political violence.” He further accused the party of politicising law enforcement agencies, adding to the growing tension between rival political groups.

Yadav also claimed that such actions could have wider consequences, stating that even BJP workers may eventually face similar backlash in regions where the party is not in power. “The people of the country are deeply angry and outraged by this negative and aggressive behaviour,” he said.

Calling for accountability, the Samajwadi Party leader stressed that the Speaker should intervene promptly, highlighting the seriousness of the matter in a democratic setup.
The incident has once again brought the issue of political clashes in West Bengal into focus, where confrontations between rival parties have frequently made headlines. With both sides trading allegations, the situation continues to add to the already charged political atmosphere in the state.
