Dhruv Rathee’s Ram-Sita video lands in legal heat: Delhi HC gives 15 days for takedown decision
The Delhi High Court has directed the Centre’s Grievance Appellate Committee to decide within 15 days on a plea seeking removal of YouTuber Dhruv Rathee’s controversial video on Hindu deities.
Popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has landed in fresh legal trouble after the Delhi High Court stepped in over a controversial video discussing Hindu deities.
The court on Friday directed the Centre’s Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) to take a decision within 15 days on whether the video should be removed from YouTube.
The matter revolves around a video uploaded by Rathee on March 21, 2026, titled “Can Hindus Eat BEEF? | Kerala Story 2 EXPOSED”, in which he reportedly discussed references from ancient Hindu scriptures and claimed that deities like Lord Ram, Sita, and Krishna consumed meat and alcohol.
The video triggered strong reactions online, with many calling the remarks offensive and hurtful to religious sentiments.
The plea was filed by advocate Amita Sachdeva, who alleged that the content was derogatory, inflammatory, and capable of disturbing communal harmony.
She argued before the court that the video distorted religious texts and insulted the sanctity of Sanatan Dharma.

During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma reportedly argued that platforms like YouTube should exercise due diligence and remove content that may hurt public sentiment.
The High Court, however, did not order an immediate takedown.
Instead, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma directed the GAC to examine the complaint and make a formal decision within the given timeline, warning that any disregard of the order would be taken seriously.
This is not the only legal challenge Rathee is facing over the video.
A separate criminal complaint has also been filed in a Delhi court, where police have already been asked to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) regarding the allegations.
The controversy has once again put the spotlight on the growing clash between free speech, religious sensitivity, and digital accountability in India.
With the 15-day deadline now ticking, the final call on whether Rathee’s video stays online or gets removed could have wider implications for online content regulation in the country
