‘Operation Chanda Chori’ Alleges Massive Donation Theft Network at Ram Temple

A fresh investigation has sparked a major controversy over the handling of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, with explosive allegations pointing to an organised network that allegedly siphoned off gold, silver, and other valuable offerings meant for the temple and its charitable activities.

The investigation, titled “Operation Chanda Chori”, claims that a central mastermind not only orchestrated the operation but also trained insiders on how to steal donations without attracting attention. According to the report, the alleged kingpin later involved his nephew and built a network of nearly 200 external handlers to manage different aspects of the operation.

The revelations have intensified public interest as the temple continues to receive significant donations from devotees across India and abroad.

Whistleblower Makes Explosive Claims

One of the key aspects of the investigation is the testimony of an on-camera whistleblower, described as a close aide to Supreme Court-appointed Ram Mandir trustee Mahant Dinendra Das.

The whistleblower alleges that the operation was highly organised and systematically targeted precious donations made by devotees. According to the claims, employees were allegedly instructed on specific methods to divert valuables while ensuring that official records appeared legitimate.

These allegations are part of the investigation and have not yet been independently verified by authorities.

Gold and Silver Allegedly Moved Through Complex Transport Network

The investigation further alleges that the syndicate developed a sophisticated system for handling gold and silver offerings.

Instead of processing precious metals through jewellers located in Ayodhya, Faizabad, or Lucknow, the valuables were allegedly packed into sacks and transported by train to Karnataka for melting.

According to the report, transportation records were allegedly manipulated to hide discrepancies. One example cited involves consignments where 26 kilograms of gold were reportedly transported while official vouchers reflected only 25 kilograms.

The alleged strategy ensured that if authorities inspected the shipment, the official paperwork would appear valid, while any additional unrecorded quantity could allegedly be diverted without immediate suspicion.

The investigation also claims that while heavy consignments travelled by rail, those overseeing the operation reportedly used commercial and even chartered flights for their own travel.

Winter Jackets Meant for Workers Allegedly Diverted

Beyond precious metals, the report also raises concerns over the handling of charitable donations.

According to the investigation, a donor from Mumbai had sent two truckloads of winter jackets intended for economically weaker temple staff.

However, the whistleblower claims that only around 40 jackets eventually reached the intended beneficiaries.

The remaining stock was allegedly diverted to the private residence of a senior trust member before being sold in the commercial market.

If proven, the allegations would represent not only financial misconduct but also the misuse of humanitarian aid donated in good faith.

Trustees Allegedly Kept Uninformed

Another serious allegation made in the investigation concerns the functioning of the temple trust itself.

The whistleblower claims that communication channels were deliberately restricted so that several Supreme Court-appointed trustees, including Mahant Dinendra Das, remained unaware of the alleged activities.

According to the report, the alleged syndicate intentionally isolated key decision-makers, preventing them from accessing crucial information related to donation management and financial oversight.

The investigation suggests this strategy helped the network continue operating without internal resistance.

Serious Allegations Await Official Verification

The findings presented in “Operation Chanda Chori” have generated widespread debate due to the significance of the Ram Temple, one of India’s most revered religious sites.

At present, these allegations are based on the investigative report and whistleblower testimony. There has been no official judicial finding establishing the claims, and any legal investigation or response from the concerned authorities may determine the authenticity of the allegations.

Given the scale of donations received by the temple every year, the controversy has renewed calls for greater transparency, stronger auditing mechanisms, and enhanced accountability in the management of religious trusts.
