India vs Sri Lanka Test Series 2026 Schedule Confirmed | WTC 2025–27 Battle Heats Up
India and Sri Lanka set for a high-stakes two-Test battle in Galle and Colombo as World Test Championship race intensifies

Cricket fans have a reason to circle August on their calendars. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has officially confirmed the schedule for India’s upcoming two-match Test series, setting the stage for a high-pressure battle in the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle.

India will travel to Sri Lanka for their first Test assignment on the island since 2017 — a series that still brings back memories of a dominant 3-0 clean sweep under then captain Virat Kohli. This time, however, the stakes feel very different.

Both teams are stuck in the middle of the World Test Championship standings, with India currently placed fifth and Sri Lanka close behind in sixth. With qualification for the 2027 WTC final still wide open, every session, every wicket, and every session of spin will matter more than ever.

The series will begin at the iconic Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19, a venue known for its slow, turning pitches that traditionally test visiting batters. The action will then shift to Colombo, where the historic Sinhalese Sports Club Ground (SSC) will host the second and final Test from August 23 to 27, both matches starting at 10:00 AM IST.

For India, the tour will also be another step in a demanding calendar that already includes white-ball commitments before they return to red-ball cricket. The side, led in transition phases by young leadership groups such as Shubman Gill, will be eager to maintain their strong record against Sri Lanka in the longest format.

History is firmly on India’s side. The Men in Blue have not lost a Test series to Sri Lanka since 2008 and have won their last four series against them, including that memorable 2017 tour. But home conditions in Sri Lanka are always tricky — especially when spinners come into play early and momentum can shift within a single session.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will see this as more than just another series. With limited opportunities in the current WTC cycle, home advantage could be their biggest weapon. The slow turners of Galle and Colombo are expected to play a decisive role once again.

There had been early discussions about adding a T20I series to the tour, but those plans appear to have been dropped due to scheduling congestion and India’s packed international calendar. As things stand, only the two Tests are confirmed.

With both teams chasing precious WTC points and looking to strengthen their path toward the 2027 final, this short series carries weight far beyond its two matches. It is not just India versus Sri Lanka — it is survival, strategy, and patience under pressure.
