Lalit Modi to Return to India After 16 Years, Says ‘The Truth Has Finally Emerged’ Following Tribunal Verdict
The IPL founder says a favourable tribunal ruling has closed a long chapter in his life, paving the way for his return to India after more than a decade abroad.
Lalit Modi, the founder and former chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has announced that he is planning to return to India after spending nearly 16 years abroad. The announcement comes shortly after a tribunal delivered a verdict in his favour, a decision that Modi described as the culmination of a long legal battle.
Speaking after the ruling, Modi expressed satisfaction with the outcome, saying he had always maintained that his actions were guided by the best interests of the IPL. He stated that the tribunal’s decision had validated what he had been saying publicly for years.
Calling it a “great day,” Modi said the verdict has finally allowed him to move beyond a chapter that has defined much of his life since he left India. According to him, his only objective had always been to safeguard the future and success of the world’s richest cricket league.

The former IPL chief revealed that he is likely to return to India towards the end of this year or in early next year. He also shared a personal reason behind the decision, saying his daughter is expecting a baby in October, and he hopes to be back in India after welcoming his grandson.
“I’m really happy with the verdict. Sixteen years I have fought, and what I have been saying has finally emerged as the truth. I was only concerned with the well-being of the IPL. Now that chapter is behind me, I’m looking forward to coming back to India,” Modi said.
