Rohit Sharma’s Mystery Century Celebration Leaves Everyone Guessing, Hitman Says: ‘It’s Not to Be Shared…’
Rohit Sharma produced a dominant century during India’s successful chase against the West Indies in Guwahati, but it was his unusual celebration after reaching three figures that sparked curiosity. The veteran opener, however, refused to reveal its meaning.
Rohit Sharma had plenty of reasons to celebrate in Guwahati. A commanding century, another major ODI milestone and a memorable Indian run chase made it a special outing for the experienced opener.
Yet, one moment left teammates and fans with the same question: What exactly did Rohit’s unusual century celebration mean?
After reaching his hundred against the West Indies on Wednesday, September 30, Rohit broke into an unusual jog resembling a skipping march. The celebration quickly attracted attention, but anyone hoping for an explanation from the Hitman was left disappointed.
Rohit simply isn’t ready to reveal the secret.
Rohit Sharma refuses to explain mystery celebration
Asked about the celebration during the post-match presentation, Rohit made it clear that its meaning was personal.
“I keep that celebration for myself,” Rohit told the broadcasters, adding that some things are simply not meant to be shared.
That response only added another layer of mystery to the moment.
Even Ravindra Jadeja apparently wanted an explanation.
Rohit revealed that Jadeja asked him about the celebration while the pair were talking during the second innings. Rohit told his teammate that he would explain everything once they were back in the dressing room.
But Jadeja apparently had his own ideas about how Rohit should have celebrated.
According to Rohit, Jadeja wanted him to perform a more dramatic celebration involving a slide and a jump. The opener wasn’t interested after spending 50 overs in the field before batting for another lengthy period.
Rohit Sharma smashes another ODI century
Away from the mystery celebration, Rohit’s innings was a reminder of just how destructive he can be at the top of the order.
Chasing a massive 407-run target, India needed an aggressive start, and Rohit provided exactly that.
While Shubman Gill initially played the more controlled role, Rohit attacked the West Indies bowling unit. He took on the pacers, including Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph, as India raced to 44 without loss inside seven overs.
Rohit completed his half-century from only 34 deliveries before shifting into an even higher gear.
He punished Keemo Paul with an explosive sequence of boundaries and continued attacking as India’s opening partnership rapidly reduced the required target.
Rohit reaches 12,000 ODI runs
The innings also brought another significant milestone for the former India captain.
Rohit became only the third Indian men’s batter to reach 12,000 runs in ODI cricket, joining two of the country’s biggest batting icons — Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.
He then moved towards his century in trademark fashion.
After surviving a chance on 84, Rohit accelerated from 85 to 99 with successive boundaries before taking a single off Vitel Lawes in the 26th over to complete his 33rd ODI century, reaching the landmark from just 72 balls.
Then came that mysterious celebration.

Despite the intimidating target, Rohit said the Indian batters weren’t obsessed with the scoreboard.
Instead, their focus was on playing each delivery on its merit and building substantial partnerships.
“We just wanted to continue to keep batting,” Rohit said.
He also praised Shubman Gill for remaining composed throughout the innings and staying unbeaten until the chase was completed.
That partnership proved crucial as India’s top order turned what could have been a daunting chase into a remarkable batting performance.
India seal series against West Indies

The victory also gave India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
Gill has been another standout performer during the series, producing a century and a double century while leading India’s batting charge.
India will now turn their attention towards the final ODI, where they have the opportunity to complete a 3-0 clean sweep while potentially giving opportunities to players on the bench.
Rohit’s century, however, will be remembered for more than just the runs.
The 12,000-run milestone, another ODI hundred and India’s successful chase were all significant — but his unusual celebration has created a mystery that only Rohit and, perhaps now, a few people inside the Indian dressing room truly understand.
