CJP Accuses Government of ‘Wasting Time’ During Dialogue

New Delhi: The political standoff over the NEET examination controversy intensified on Tuesday after Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke accused the Central Government of engaging in “meaningless negotiations” while simultaneously allowing police action against protesting students.

Addressing supporters at Jantar Mantar, where demonstrations have now entered their 32nd consecutive day, Dipke alleged that the government’s invitation for dialogue was merely a strategy to weaken the protest movement.

According to Dipke, the government’s actions during the meeting with senior CJP representatives raised serious concerns about its intentions.“The government wasted our time. They called us for talks while students were being lathi-charged outside,” Dipke alleged during his address.

He further claimed that party representatives Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were kept waiting for nearly five hours at Union Health Minister JP Nadda’s residence, describing the situation as an attempt to keep the leadership away from protesters during the police operation.

The Central Government has not officially responded to these allegations.

JP Nadda Meets CJP Delegation

Monday marked the first direct interaction between the Centre and the protesting CJP leadership since the agitation began in June.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda met representatives Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, who submitted a memorandum demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities and calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Following the meeting, Ranka said the only assurance received was that the government leadership would internally discuss the demands before communicating its decision.

No concrete commitments or timelines were announced after the discussions.

Police Crackdown Sparks Fresh Political Battle

The controversy comes after thousands of protesters gathered in Delhi for the “Sansad Chalo” march despite prohibitory orders and extensive security arrangements.

As demonstrators attempted to move towards Parliament, police intervened using lathi-charge and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Authorities and protest organisers have since blamed each other for the violence that followed.

Heavy security continued around Jantar Mantar on Tuesday, even as volunteers cleaned the protest site after temporary structures and tents were removed following the police action.

Despite the crackdown, protest leaders reiterated that the movement would continue until their demands are addressed.

Sonam Wangchuk’s Hunger Strike Raises Serious Health Concerns

The protest also witnessed renewed concern over the health of environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has remained on an indefinite hunger strike since June 28.

Dipke revealed that fellow protesters had nearly convinced Wangchuk to end his fast, believing his health had reached a critical stage. However, he reportedly decided to continue the strike after witnessing the police action against demonstrators.

Dipke warned that doctors had already expressed concerns about prolonged fasting and possible organ damage if the fast continued.

Wangchuk was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police on July 18, where he has continued his fast.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court directed that Wangchuk be immediately shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, following a petition filed by his wife seeking improved medical care.

Crowds Continue to Gather Despite Police Action

CJP leader Saurav Das claimed that supporters continued arriving at Jantar Mantar despite Monday’s crackdown. Volunteers were seen providing legal assistance, medical support and logistical help to protesters.

The demonstration has become one of the longest-running protests centred around alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, with participants demanding educational reforms, greater transparency in recruitment and examinations, and political accountability.

Protest Shows No Signs of Slowing Down

The agitation, which began on June 20, continues to draw students, activists and civil society members from across the country.

With negotiations yet to produce any breakthrough, the confrontation between protest leaders and the government appears far from over. As political accusations intensify and concerns grow over Sonam Wangchuk’s health, all eyes remain on whether fresh dialogue can help resolve the ongoing impasse.
