Punjabi singer, actor, and filmmaker Gippy Grewal has spoken publicly about the shocking firing incident that took place outside his residence in Vancouver, Canada, revealing that he had no idea why he had been targeted and had never received any threats before the attack.

The actor opened up about the incident during an appearance on Shekhar Suman’s talk show, Shekhar Tonite, where he reflected on the confusion and disbelief he experienced after gunshots were fired outside his home in November 2023.

According to Gippy, the attack came completely out of nowhere.

“When the firing happened outside my house, I honestly didn’t know why it had happened. I had never received any call. Nobody had threatened me. Later, a post surfaced explaining why they did it,” he said during the conversation.

The incident grabbed national attention after a social media post allegedly linked to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi claimed responsibility for the shooting. The message reportedly described the attack as a warning connected to Gippy’s perceived relationship with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.

‘My Relationship With Salman Khan Was Never That Close’

Addressing the claims directly, Gippy clarified that his association with Salman Khan had been exaggerated by those behind the threats.

The actor explained that he had only met Salman on a handful of occasions during professional commitments, including film promotions and appearances on the reality show Bigg Boss.

“The reality is that I had only met Salman sir a few times while promoting films on Bigg Boss and during a trailer launch. We didn’t even have a close friendship. But they assumed otherwise, and that led to the incident,” Gippy said.

His comments shed light on how assumptions and public perceptions can sometimes place celebrities in difficult and dangerous situations.

A Pattern of Attacks Targeting Entertainment Personalities

The firing outside Gippy Grewal’s home was followed by a series of similar incidents involving well-known names from the entertainment industry.

In 2024, shots were reportedly fired outside the Canadian residence of Punjabi singer AP Dhillon, with reports suggesting the attack was linked to a music video featuring Salman Khan.

The same year, multiple rounds were allegedly fired outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments residence in Mumbai’s Bandra area, an incident that sparked significant security concerns across the film industry.

More recently, unidentified attackers reportedly opened fire outside a gym owned by Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa in Delhi’s Paschim Vihar locality. While no injuries were reported, police recovered several empty cartridges from the scene during the investigation.

Authorities later arrested two alleged members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in connection with the case. Investigators believe the accused were linked to gangster Anil Pandit, who is reportedly operating from the United States.

The Long-Running Salman Khan Connection

For years, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has allegedly issued threats directed at Salman Khan over the actor’s alleged involvement in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case in Rajasthan.

Several incidents over the past few years have been linked to that ongoing dispute, with law enforcement agencies continuing investigations into gang-related activities across India and abroad.

Despite the frightening experience, Gippy Grewal’s recent comments reveal a man still trying to understand how he became entangled in a controversy he says he never saw coming.
